Let's see....based on the pile of snow on the ground from the hood and the fact he now has the block heater plugged in, I'm guessing it sat there a day or three and has a couple glow plugs burned out and he kept cranking while rubbing the dash and saying a prayer until the starter looked like an ember in a fire pit.
