Drive one that isn't a neutured company truck and there is a huge difference!starmac Thanks this. -
get yourself a truck with a CAT or at least an N14 because in my opinion detroits are decent engines for the first 800K miles then they turn into headaches but again that's just my view on things and i respect other's ideas and opinions
losttrucker Thanks this. -
I believe it depends on the wrought, an N14 was a great engine as long as you keep it 500 HP 1850 torque and lower, Detroit's will make you a lot of money, they burn less fuel, and last as long as any. I would like to thank you guys running "CATs" . I really like people that hate any engine, it is made to do a job. I always liked guys buying a 600 hp 2050 engine and then complaining about fuel burn, and maintenance costs. then there is the guy running a 3176 making all kinds of money on the same run pulling the same weight. I have found that some people have a lot of trouble driving a truck that does not have a ton of chrome, black, and loosing money. Put then in one that is making money and they have big problems. I worked on a lot of engines that had well over 1.5 million miles Detroit's and N14's, and we have mountains around here. I really like and have a lot of experience working on Cat's, I have glued them replaced, repaired most everything. Are you driving to impress someone or to make money? I know I made a lot of money fixing Cat's and I would like to thank all you guys that bought them. Just a thought!

here at school our diesel tune-up instructor told us about a trick detroit engineers stumbled upon while upgrading their fuel systems for the ddec iv and v engines. apparently drilling out the restricted fitting on the back of the cylinder head (0.080") a few thousandths of an inch will wake that b!tch right up. they quit doing that because the fact got leaked before everything was said and done. i think its neat because it lowers fuel pressure but opens up a little more hp. but i would research it a little more before trying my luck.

Your welcome Johnp3. mine has a big cat lots of power, chrome ,lights, big loud pipes, impresses people everywhere I go. Oh yeah almost forgot it makes me money to. And your right I would really hate to drive anything else. Just a thought!
Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
S hauler I would run through all the parts everyone has told you about and all is good to go do the ECM and drive it right and you should be happy. Good luck

i just found a place called pdi they say they can program m ecm to 800 hp but the want like 2700 to do it
-
s hauler pdi is who i used when i rebuilt my motor i did the ecm turbo and exhaust manifold very happy with the setup. one word of advice dont go crazy with the horse power program unless you are willing to spend some money. i went with a 650 hp ecm program i works perfect.
s hauler Thanks this.
