:laughing-guffaw:Now that's funny! My boss would love it! He'd call his daughter to come right down to the shop and see me. She is our office person...the whole office...the CEO. The offer to come back to work for him he made entirely open to me. He doesn't care if it's years from now. He'd welcome me anytime. BTW: I don't know how my boss does it. He does work on the trucks in the shop. He really moves. I can't believe all that he does. He's only ten years younger than myself.
I'm afraid driving is out for me. Even with my Imdur. That's a drug that helps keep my arteries open. When I exercise it always helps me. I feel better. Pretty much the Imdur has done away with any little pains in my chest here and there. But some days my heart will feel tight. Not bad. But tight. I go into rehab. After a half hour or more on that machine. Then dumbbells and stretching. My heart will feel good again. Then I gotta keep going to the Y and walk. I do a mile or more a day there, on crutches. So I'm pretty much addicted to exercise. I fear I can't handle sitting in a truck all day anymore. I don't think I could handle local driving either.
To supplement my income, I've asked at the truck stops if they'd want me behind the counter. They sure would, with me being a driver. Can relate to the drivers well. So we'll see a year from now. Then I'll become 67 and no BS with Social Security and working. They don't want to hear about it at that point. So I might see some of you guys when you're passing through here. We got Loves, FlyingJ, and Pilot.
I seriously feel for those people with massively swollen ankles. Their days are numbered.

The greedy trucking industry has continuously shown how little they value the health and wellbeing of their drivers. The dangers of sitting for extended periods has long been known. Many airlines, on long flights, encourage their passengers to get up and move around every 2-3 hours to lower the risk of getting vascular issues. Trucking companies though, don't want the trucks stopping except for fueling and the 30 minute break. It's no wonder that health insurance is so high when obtained through a trucking company.
I just want to thank @WesternPlains for this doing this thread. I know it wasn't easy for him and he will be in my prayers. I hope we all learned something here.

He is a hell of a boss. He did what I call my run for 8 years before he expanded with three trucks doing this run all at the same time. These are Landstar loads. He hired me from here because everyone had to take a 34 here. He put an add on craigslist here. Common Horse Sense. The downfall was working for a very small company. You can imagine having to handle things. Be ready to handle a sudden change because we had to. Ok with me. We both had the same attitude. We were both from So. Cal. where to succeed you had to have the attitude of I don't care how many goof ups, just as long as the person is trying, is all that matters. Believe me, I had my share of goof ups. He's always trying. I was more of a hassle. Drivers from there in OH would drop their trucks off at the shop while they went home for a couple days. We did much work at the International Dealer here in Rapid. So I didn't have to wait even more at the shop in OH while he did work. There was still plenty we did to the truck in OH. I waited. Can you believe the service manager at International brought me my laptop in the hospital? I needed it to pay my bills and apply with social security. This is the kind of stuff that happens when everybody is working together. I always worked together. I could tell so many stories. One thing he likes about me was I had so much experience driving through Montana. Winter was no big deal most of the time. I had the wisdom. Knew when they forecast twenty something below. It would be thirty something below. No, I don't go there then. Boss agreed. I spent a weekend sitting in Portland because of that. I could go on and on and on.
He's my best, greatest boss. I know he's looking for someone as reliable, and agreeable as I am.
Alot of drivers are afraid to drive through Montana all winter. I know this part of the country and Montana. It's really no big deal. Alot of drivers didn't like driving 422 in Penn. We would cut straight across Penn. and paid zero tolls. I loved driving Penn. and paying no tolls. BTW: 422 passes right in front of the fairgrounds where they tried to murder Trump.
    .
BTW: We used to sit in his shop in OH. We'd laugh about the politics in CA. Our idiot relatives there.

I finally got the weekend off after running for two months. I only got this time off because I was going to quit otherwise.

As far as health, I am relatively fit and not overweight. I get as much movement as I can and run around at top speed all the time. I love to walk however I personally find it to be impractical when working as an OTR driver.

I spend a crazy amount of money on food. I never, ever eat junk food. Ever. I also take supplements strategically. The only way I have found to determine the benefit is to take them for awhile then stop for a month or so. And everyone is different so what helps me may not help someone else, or what helps me now may not help me in a few years. I will leave truck driving forever before I will go back to eating garbage. It's a commitment, plain and simple.

Oh, and I started wearing compression socks for lower leg circulation years ago and have found them to be beneficial.

None of the above is intended as health advice or advice of any kind.

I would imagine with the drama queen type drivers out there your boss has had to deal with, he appreciates the hell out of having someone who just got #### done.

Thanks for your story, hopefully it opens some eyes.

I have a step counter on my phone. I try to hit 6000 a day while working. It isnt to hard. Usually get 2500 with out trying. Then wander aimlessly in the parking lot 20 minutes at the end of the night. I like parking in back so that makes the number easier to hit.
