Thank you. That is helpful. I didn't know about the helium purge let alone 3 hours to unload.

length of time for hydrogen training depends on the trainees experience. If they are fresh with zero cryo experience yes it can be quite lengthy. Those who come from LIN, LOX, LAR, tend to pick it up quite fast. The main difference with LH2 is load and unloading times are a lot longer. Mainly because for the most part trailers and customer tanks are gravity/pressure loaded. So no pumps, another is the cooling and purging process has more steps as tank contamination is very important. Purging with helium is more for stack fires you don’t even typically see helium tanks on the new LH2 trailers. Lastly since LH2 is so much colder then the others (-423) the pressure spikes during and after offloading need to be understood and can vary drastically depending on customer/trailer tank size, liquid saturation, and liquid level.

The future is going towards making the offloading process automated, unfortunately I feel like this is going to take away from how much a driver understands. Some day a manual off loading/ loading driver will be a thing of the past and a driver will hook a hose and press a button. Us dinosaurs will probably become techs that get called when things go wrong and have to trouble shoot.

Well today is the day we all dream of.
    My last tour.
Will come in tomorrow, clock in and clean out the locker, turn in cards, keys, tools etc.
Didn't quite make 16 here at the 998 but am fortunate to make it out alive.
51 years as a truck em up driver, and unless I crash today, I can honestly say , a career without an accident.
Yeah I've had an incident or two along the way.
Everybody has and that's truckin but never have I crashed, hit something or someone.
I truly wish I'd have gotten into the work earlier but we found the job on accident so...

All I'll tell you cats is stay true to your process, double check all you've done at a stop and just follow company policy and you too can find that finish line.
I'm sure I'll be checking in as habits are hard to break, and I will renew my DL and hazmat..cause you never know right?

Good luck, health and prosperity to all of you out there.

    Dennis,
I wish you only the best in your retirement. I have you to thank for convincing me to get into cryo. Your experience, guidance, and advice were very much appreciated and respected by alot of us and you will be missed, my friend. There is no replacing the knowledge and skillset that will be leaving with you. Safe journeys and happy adventures, and hopefully the diesel in your blood will leave you alone long enough to enjoy retirement before you start looking at trucks again lol.

I hope you have an awesome last run!

    Christopher
