Another day another explosion. Impala I hadnt been driving much, I went to start it and make sure it would be ok to drive to work. Well I guess its not anymore after the intake exploded. I got the fire out before it burnt down.

used to be worse. They made that worthless bypass at Hardy through the ‘mountain’ to keep trucks out. Used to get people mirrors knocked off parking to close to street in town.

I didn't like the way that looked on the map... so I ended up running US64 to US167 to Batesville, then took 69 to Melbourne, 9 to Brockwell, 56 to Calico Rock, then 5 into Mountain Home...

Would have like to see the country... but most of it was in the dark.

Might have been on AR14 out of Newport on up toward Oil Trough and Salado to 167 on into Batesville. Used to be a short stretch coming south
into/near Oil Trough where the sign said "Road Narrows". It really did and was the old reddish paving they used way back. Sort of a wide one lane or a lane and a half you shared. Going on north up near the Greasy Bend Off Road Park you had kinda got the hang of it.
Did not bother us much then. Old gas trucks, 5 on one stick (5th OD), single speed axle. But I have beat the posted speed limits up in there quite a few times. You need to run down in there more often and get a little more detailed knowledge of the area. Kinda like muscle memory, comes back.

I to Batesville weren't bad... it was from Batesville to Mountain Home that was interesting.... especially past Calico Rock.
