Hello!! Just a simple question....
Hubby has been working with one company for quite some time...and he's always frustrated with them (he tells me the stories, I don't blame him!)...anyways, he called me to tell me that he had to sign a contract today giving him only 52 cents per mile.... Is that about par, it sounds really low.
I don't demand you state your pay, just asking if it's really low...
TY!!
Pay per mile...

What kind of driving is he doing, otr, regional, dedicated, hazmat etc?
oshawasue Thanks this. -
Well, figure 100 maybe 125,000 miles a year does it add to enough for him?
Now's not a real good time to be looking for a new gig.
Peteoshawasue Thanks this. -
52 cents a mile is definitely on the lower end , That seems to be what the mega carriers are paying . the big problem is not a whole lot of decent companies are hiring right now . I would try and stick it out until atleast spring and see what happens with the industry then
If he quits goes to another company and they let him go shortly after or there’s no work . He may have a heck of a time finding another job right now . the old saying if you’re an experienced driver with a clean record you can get a job any where is no longer true . Especially right now with how bad the economy and trucking industry is partially thanks to trump . theres so many experiences drivers and new immigrants looking for jobs right now with few hiring. Hopefully something changes in the springtime, although i have a feeling nothing positive will really change but may actually be worse next year . All anyone can say is it sucks the situation your husband is in but with few good companies hiring right now it’s a huge gamble to go to another company right now not knowing if you can land another jobLast edited: Dec 9, 2025

Where ya located? Manitoba or Saskatchewan?
Does he get health benefits, pension, paid waiting/loading time? Job security is most important right now.
Is he getting steady miles? More pay does not help if it take 12 hours to knock off 300 miles due to poor dispatching
He can do better depending on location and experienceLast edited: Dec 10, 2025

Long-hauling, sometimes refrigerated, into the USA

We're in Ontario...
He doesn't get health benefits... no pension...small amount (like $50 here and there for layovers, and only if he speaks up about it...)
He IS steadily working, to the point where he drives about 10 or more days, and get only about 18 hours at home before being sent out again. -
Yes 52 cpm for that is on the low side. I was making that cpm for long haul over 5 years ago. He should be closer to 60cpm these days minimal. Unfortunately his company isn't the only one doing this. Rates are still in the toilet.

Time to move on. That’s a job for a new recruit
If he your husband had a few years experience start looking around.
He should also be getting 2 days home time on turn around minimum. 18 hours turnaround is garbage. I’d refuse to leave the house for a week if I’d been kept out for ten days,,, but I’ve slways been like that. Never worked weekends
I worked 15 years long haul, 30 years line hauloshawasue Thanks this. -
The market sucks. That pay is low, but he’s working steady. Us lanes should pay more, but as mentioned, rates are in the dumper.
