A quick change bucket would make that an easier task

That’s pretty slick, having the ram to move its own counter weight. Is that common place on the big machines, or just the smartly made/designed ones?

perhaps the AFC guy wants to move your Hoe on his 40 ton stretch trailer - just to help ease your work load.

Pretty common anymore, but it’s still an option. You can still get them the old fashioned way

True, but the quick coupler weighs quite a bit, and worse it moves the bucket and weight in the bucket further out, which hurts the balance of the machine, and reduces production which raises cost per cubic yard. Also, we cannot use quick couplers when digging under water in the winter because ice build up will break the hydraulic lines going to the quick coupler.

They make sense for contractors needing to use different size buckets, but not for us. We can pull the bucket pretty quickly when we need to.

Like @ElmerFudpucker said, they are pretty common in machines over 100k. I believe the newer ones have an improved method, but this works well. Having the machine pretty level helps.

I am surprised it will lift its counter weight with the bucket on….ive been around some machines that won’t or it’s too sketchy to be worth doing

You definitely want the finals to the back and lift over the corner of an idller. It gets pretty light for sure. Loading it on something lower would be easier. But then if you had something lower you could set right on to the deck instead on the ground first.
