Back story:
I am the owner of a small trucking company out of Illinois. Only been doing this for a few years but have all day cabs. I found a great driver that I’d like to keep employed during the winter months and then put back on my local stuff in the spring. He wants to go OTR so I’m looking at a few trucks.
One of the trucks I’m looking at is a 2018 Volvo 760 with I-shift 12 speed with 3.08 rear ends. It has phenomenal maintenance records and is priced right but I don’t know anything about the transmission and RPM ranges. I drove it yesterday and it drove great but the RPM’s seemed high, 1900 rpm, at 65-70 mph.
Is there anyone with experience that can tell me if this is normal or abnormal? Thank in advance.

That’s not an interstate truck. You’ll need to replace rear ends and possibly transmission to get it to be a fuel efficient interstate truck.

That doesn't sound right. Are you sure you were making it to 12th gear?
Replacing rears/tranny on a modern Volvo is not a cost effective solution. Replacing tranny isn't even a solution at all.Big Road Skateboard Thanks this. -
It was showing 12th on the dash. I didn’t figure those RPM’s made sense. I tried manually running through the gears as well as letting it do it itself.

Sounds like the transmission is a direct drive model (no overdrive gear). Either that or it's had those 3.08 rears swapped out at some point.
86scotty and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
Most ishift trucks ive drove were running 70mph at 1300 or 1400 rpm.
86scotty Thanks this.
