I posted the other thread about getting a new trucking job with four non-DOT incidents at my current job this past year. None of those show up on my DAC report. I found out that another carrier that I applied to ordered the report, which I looked at to see what's actually on there. It says I have a non preventable DOT accident from December 2023 when I hit a deer. It also says I have a non-DOT preventable from March of 2024 that I honestly don't even know what it was for. I never received any verbal discipline or write up from the company I was working for at the time, and nothing was ever communicated to me about how this would cause me to get a mark on my record.
The company listed it on my Driver Pulse page as a "preventable accident" just off that report. Nothing shows up on my MVR or PSP besides a single speeding ticket I was transparent about, so for all I know, I have no DOT accidents. Yet it seems like the stuff on my DAC report is actively being used to say that I have a DOT non preventable (despite no police involvement in the deer collision) as well as a preventable (that I don't even know what it's for). I'm just hoping they don't disqualify me over the four preventable non DOT incidents at my current job, as it's nowhere on my DAC and I don't see how they'd find out.
How critical is the DAC report to getting a job?

Don't be tricked into revealing more information than is asked for.
BrothaTrucka513, silverspur, blairandgretchen and 5 others Thank this. -
All I can say based on the other thread and this one, if you have so many incidences and wondering what to list and what will or won’t show up on this or that report you really need to slow down and figure out what you need to change going forward. A new job is meaningless if you don’t correct the issues that are the reason you’re looking for a new job.

Dac (Hireright) has to follow the same rules as the credit bureaus. You have the right to dispute anything on your report. Then Dac will have to investigate by contacting the reporting company. even if that doesn't get it removed, you can put in a rebuttal statement. Get your report yourself and then take whatever action you need to.silverspur, Bean Jr., tscottme and 1 other person Thank this.

It really doesn’t matter what your DAC says. It's all about the insurance. Hitting a deer is not the end of the world. Even if the company doesn't run through the process, they can decide to pull your application or not. You're going to kill yourself worrying about this. Apply to the jobs, answer the questions based on how they are asked, and either they'll tell you yes or no. Don't fess up to unnecessary things. I don't believe that there's any such thing as "lying by omission." There is a such thing as being too honest. If they tell you no, that means you have to stay at your current job. Either way, you'll have somewhere to work.
tscottme and Trucker61016 Thank this. -
So you said 4 non Dot then you said you had non preventable dot accident?? So which is it???
tscottme Thanks this. -
The four non dot incidents were from my current job. The supposed dot accident (hitting a deer) and the preventable non DOT I don't even know about happened at my previous job.

Challenge the entry on your DAC. You should also submit a statement to your DAC. If you follow the DAC rules & your statement is of the proper length, then any company requesting your DAC also gets your statement. Both the Challenge and your statement MUST FOLLOW THE DAC REQUIREMENTS or neither will happen. Just Google driver Challenge of Hire Right report and then hire right driver statement. Hireright.com puts the driver/applicant stuff in one section that's not obvious if you just go to the HireRight front page & start guessing. I'D suggest you tone down your worrying about DAC about 40%. Its one thing that is considered before hiring a driver.

For drivers worried about DAC/HireRight, they are no more than a private company that sells driver information to make money. HireRight is in no way affiliated with any governmental agency. HireRight is owned by Investment Funds affiliated with General Atlantic and Stone Point Capital.
Furthermore, much of the information on drivers is false and often made-up when companies do not like a driver. For the most part, it is who is telling the truth and who do you want to believe. This company holds too many loose ends/undocumented information that is published/sold.
Example: Werner wholly believes in what past employers post/say about a former driver with no thought/regard of the driver's side of an issue. This is then used to hire/dismiss a driver for employment.
A diver can go to a company and not be paid and then quits. The driver then goes to another company and in two months they go out of business. The driver then goes to a third company and is promised new equipment only to find an out-of -service truck waiting for him/her and is told to drive it for now. Driver refuses and is kicked off the lot.
This driver is deemed/labeled a bad attitude, Job-hopping driver, who did not follow instructions and was a problem for companies. Each company can post 'bad driver' or 'bad attitude' or 'no longer emloyed' There you have it as far as HireRight's legitimate information that is sold to Werner/other trucking companies. Driver had three jobs in four months as reported via HireRight.Last edited: Dec 16, 2025
