Detroits have there Horsepower high up in the RPM range and this is the problem, the truck that I am currently driving (until I finish my Inframe on my truck) has the same engine rated rated at 500HP and I pull a B-Double with a gross 65,000kg / 143,000lb so I know were you are coming from, my best advice get another engine like a Cummins or Cat, they have the horses down were you need them. hope this helps.

if your doing an inframe it would be the perfect time to do the pdi up grade. you could still do the pdi up grade with that many miles on it but i wouldnt go to outrages on the hp.

Detroit's HP is at the same RPM as everyone else's, torque is at 1200RPM just like most everyone else's, the most power you will get from any engine is from 1450 to 1550 That is your best usable power range. You drive with torque, and make money there if you want to run high rpm then your fuel mileage goes way down. If you take your truck in and complain about mileage they will print out the ECM and get the Rpm range, speed and idle time. If you are running above 1550, above 65 MPH, and have idle times above 25%. Then they will advise you to read the pamphlets you got when you bought the truck, test your CAC, and advise you get a valve set.

There are lots of different engines out there, you will find one if you look hard enough. Some people get great service from one kind of engine and have trouble with the others. Some roughts are better suited to some engines over another. You can buy an Acert, real cheap now auction are full of them. Some people drive to make money, a sixty series will do that if you give it a chance.
