Some people love the otr lifestyle and don't mind being out for long periods of time. To each his own. I drive my truck and live my life and let others do the same.

That won't work because I came to this company in the middle of the year, like maybe March or April, but yeah, the money is one of them but I'm leaving for more than that. I originally wanted to go OTR, hell I've been out for about 2 months now, finally going home next week, I had some goals that I wanted to hit ( didn't reach them btw... ) plus me not knowing how real trucking was is more of the reason why. The freaking mountains which I hate, we don't have that in Florida, traffic, parking, waiting at shippers and receivers, you know, basically trucking in general. And recently I drove through snow for the first time, I'd like to avoid that lmao!!! I also almost lost my fingers in a -20° weather in Cedar Rapids, Iowa because of a rookie mistake. So all these things factor in my decision, again this might be an OTR thing and local or regional don't have those problems, but I wanna see what's out there but I'm gonna keep my CDL just in case, just won't renew my medical card.074344, BeHereNow97 and Cobrawastaken Thank this.

If can go back to tech and make anything close to what you’re making now then stick with it. OTR trucking sucks in general. Guys on other threads brag about making $100K. But they live like they’re homeless for 70 hrs a week babysitting the truck. No home life no family life just rotting away chasing miles in a truck. F that.

Oooof... Alright, I'll try.

I don't live like I'm "homeless" nor work anywhere near 70hrs a week to make 6 figures and be home daily. I've been out here since the 90's and no it's not the same as it used to be but it's also not as bad as some guys make it out to be. I still love what I do.074344, Speedy356 and nextgentrucker Thank this.

I’m working at an LTL gig now, after having 20+ years on the road. OTR trucking took a lot out of me, and from me. I’ve missed a LOT of things, lost a lot of friends because I chose the road.
I’ve almost lost my life more than once, out there. I have a great job that I can’t see myself giving up anytime soon. Even if it involves me doing something I don’t necessarily want to do.
@nextgentrucker you do what’s right for you, and you alone. Whatever you decide, just know some of us “old hands” have your back.BeHereNow97, 074344 and nextgentrucker Thank this. -
Thanks, will do.
So I'm guessing it's an OTR thing.Speedy356 Thanks this. -
When I ran otr I loved it. I've honestly never had a trucking job I didn't like.nextgentrucker Thanks this.

I can't do the same thing every day. The monotony gets old real fast. I like being OTR because I'm always going to different places. Don't get me wrong, I do like the familiarity of delivering to the same customers from time to time, but it's spread out. I did a year OTR out of school and said alright now I have the experience to go local. Got a local dry bulk job where it was the same route 99% of the time and I couldn't get through 4 months of it before I went regional. Once I did regional, I missed the longer runs and higher miles per week so I went back to OTR again after another 3-4 months. Besides a short stint of SW regional when I worked for FCC (girlfriend at the time wanted to see me more) I've been OTR ever since then. To be fair, FCC does have some of the best regional runs in my opinion. But again, I love the long hauls. One of the reasons I'm considering leaving Caledonia is a lack of consistent long hauls.
