So after all the above posts and complaints............ when did the trucking industry start to go bad?

The answer: When the suits got involved.
I remember back in the 60's and 70's.... just about all the trucking companies and trucking businesses were owned and or run by people who started out in their own truck.
Just about every trucking company out there, was started by a one owner & most of the time it started with him driving a truck to get the business off the ground.

I've got no problem with an education. I think that everyone who wants an education should be able to get it. I wish I had more of an education. But the problem with the trucking industry..... whether at the bottom or the top, now days is...... everybody wants to run the business without any first hand experience. From the bottom or top. And neither seems to be working or improving the industry.

Law 40 of the 48 Laws of Power: Despise the Free Lunch. Research it. It’s the number one book in corporate America and the prison system.

“But Six, what’s wrong with accepting free food and clothing?”

Nothings free. There’s always a price.

    Not enough truck parking.
    Not getting paid for detention/waiting.
Idiots parking at the fuel pumps for everything but fuel.
Non-English speaking drivers slowing down check-in at customers and acting like animals in the parking lot.
Drivers than cannot back a trailer, so they park everywhere but a parking space.
Lack of howitzer in the front bumper to fix bad driving by 4-wheelers.

The delays at shippers and receivers. They don't care about our time.

Lol I'm quite familiar with that book. My previous post was in jest. That is not a new revelation. While there are profound things within that publication, if one had to read.....or even quote a book for that truth, then one's thinking should pick up the pace. That said, it may have cost the company, but it didn't cost me. I'll take it for what it is......a gesture.

    Lonesome Thanks this.

Agreed....that's because we live in a society where the almighty dollar speaks the loudest. Our society thinks big money equals big brains. If you have capital and/or credit, they'll allow you and opportunity you want in our country. So when the USA stops worshipping and chasing money endlessly, you might see changes.

    A distraction. Ownership. Free advertising.

Years ago, I worked for a big outfit that would have a group of drivers sit at a table with upper management/CEO. The CEO, who owned ships, private planes, private islands, yachts…etc. Of course, drivers are going to gripe about everything. Idiots crave an audience above all else.
Mr CEO , who hired some beancounter from Yellow Freight, who convinced everyone that they were paying drivers too much money. We had gone from $12-15k/week to $6k to work in northern Canada and the Territories. And these idiots are whining about the dispatcher.

“But Six, they got FREE hotdogs!”

Nope, those hotdogs cost drivers$6-9k/week. There’s no such thing as free.

“But Six, what if it were a gesture to the drivers?”

It was. “Thank you, you non thinking, uninformed uneducated unintelligent meat in the seat drivers. Eat my hotdog and stay in your lane.”
