    As long as all it takes to get authority is $300 this problem will continue.

    I think anyone applying for authority needs to do it in person so that identity is verified in person to cut down on the fraud

    Everybody doesn’t want small government. our current government wants small government, so they can steal right and left without being investigated and questioned.

    That’s true, at the same time persons social should be tied to the authority.

    While I understand the point you’re you’re making the problem is people can’t have their cake and eat their ice cream too… They’re gonna have to come up with some kind of Feasible way to get this done to cut down the fraud if not, attempt to eliminate the fraud so this crap doesn’t happen at the level it’s occurring at right now…

    we can have a smaller size government one that’s run more efficiently… But the problem is too many of the people in this country. Don’t want to pay attention even remotely and don’t care what they’re doing up there… I’m not saying people have to sit there and pay attention 24/7 but people have to pay attention to some extent and hold these people accountable for what’s going on

    Showing up in person will fix nothing because 6 people can go in and get 6 authorities the same as 6 people could do it online. It would fix nothing when it comes to switching authorities while maintaining the same equipment and the same people within the companies.

    If you needed to prove you had customers of your own to be granted authority it would fix the capacity issue because most who get authority get it to run spot freight.

    Back in the olden days you had to show that your truck was needed while everyone else at the hearing tried to show it wasn’t. The other option was to buy an existing company to get their authority. It used to take a lot more than $300. Intrastate authority used to be just as difficult. When dad passed away in 91 South Dakota still regulated intrastate hauling. Mom sold our SD authority for a little over $15k.

    The only way to fix the fraud and capacity issue is to make people have some skin in the game to get authority. If you’re a broker or carrier without any direct customers then surrender your authority and apply again. If your application is accepted then a smooth $10k will get you authority and get you going again. And brokers should be required to have a $1mil bond to operate.
