I recently came off the road running otr to be close to home for health reasons. My conundrum is I now drive unassigned Volvo daycabs meaning I drive a different truck every day. I’m trying to use my Stryker 655 dash mounted and using stock coax and antenna. My first attempt was high swr warning. Some trucks have what looks like Francis antennas some have Volvo factory antenna. Will the Stryker work in this situation or do I need to bite the bullet and get an off the shelf cb and live with it?

Stock Volvo antennas can work well, but they won't last long! The antenna mounts are lucky to last a year before they start loosening up and breaking. Same with the antennas. The drivers side antenna is for CB. Passenger side is for AM/FM radio. If your slip seating I wouldn't use that Stryker unless you find a way to have an antenna system you can swap trucks with. Not an easy endeavor for something that won't blow up your radio!

Thanks for the info. I drive a different truck every night that’s my issue otherwise I’d have my predator 10k antenna hooked up.

Company regional trucks use to do this since they drove a different truck on regular bases:

Probably not a good solution. Volvo mirror arms are painted so grounding would be nearly impossible.

I was thinking maybe on the grab bar behind the drivers side or some similar option. Or I may have to just buy a cheaper radio.

I slipped seated and ran a 7ft SkipShooter. There is a long thread on here about it. My solution, with pictures, is on about post 30. It was on the pre 2017 Cascadia. Just mentioning it for ideas because there are lots of ways to "skin a cat". here is the link if you're interested: Cascadia Antenna Solutions

The grab bar is where I'd go with a bracket to run a counter poise. Might take some experimenting to get something that would work and be a quick hook up.

Some Volvos have about 2" of exposed mirror support tubing at the top where they attach to the door. You can mount something there using a QRC-S3 mount, shown below. This mount will also allow you to mount on a grab-bar behind the cab if needed. The mounting tab can be rotated to any angle needed, allowing you to take advantage of just about any metal mounting point on the truck. In response to an earlier reply about not being able to ground through teh coating, these will bite through and ground with no problem. You will need so supply a mounting stud and coax, of course, but this should solve your problem with flying colors. We sell these at our Carlisle, PA CB shop location, and have had great success with them on many different truck makes/models, farm equipment, quarry loaders, etc.
