I got out of Cardiac Rehab. Got a membership at the Hospital's gym. They got the NuStep machine. They got classes for people like me. They also do serious sports training there. They got an extended hours card I paid extra for. I spend an hour on that machine. Does me a ton of good. Christmas day, today, I went in there twice. Did an hour each time. I'm so glad I got this membership. No more BS cutting off holidays, weekend hours, shorter hours, etc. I still have my membership at the Y. Volunteering 4 hours a month to make it free. It has the 1/8th mile track indoors. It's much closer than the other health club.

Yes agree whole heartily while I was over there I'd put on 14 kg or around 30 lb in 12 months eating all you can eat buffets at Flying J and Golden Corral I just could not stop at one plate. Of course just sitting in a truck all day long was not much help either. The truth is we need a certain amount of energy for our daily needs between 180 - 250 g of carbs depending on how much physical activity we engage in. Unfortunately if we eat more carbs than our body requires it will not simply pass out the excess from our rear if you get what I mean, no instead it will store all that excess energy in the form of carbs turned into glucose and then fat and stored around the body. The solution is eat less carbs particularly the processed ones, or increase physical activity which is kind of hard to do when one is sitting in a Tractor all day long.

Don’t consume more calories than you can burn. Something that should be taught in school. I saw so many greenhorns put on so many pounds in a few years.
I had been at peak physical condition at 20 and that definitely effected my lifestyle and choices
I’m 67 and still hitting the slopes weekly and hiking a few miles daily

That works out to 3 glazed doughnuts, 4 jelly doughnuts, 2 chocolate covered doughnuts with those little sprinkles on it, and a chocolate covered bar with creme inside. That should do it. :laughing-guffaw:

It is. So are taxes, budgeting, and compound interest for both mortgages and savings.

Problem is kids at that age CAN burn more calories than they can consume, so they don't really understand. Same thing for the finances - they get taught the theory long before they have to put it into practice.

I just wanted to chime in on this for the original poster. Exercise is important. You seem to bring that up a lot but I’m gonna tell you what’s even more important is your diet. Learn what the top 8 to 10 super foods are I know that sounds cheesy, but they are things like avocados, eggs, Greek yogurt, Wild salmon, beets, spinach, you get the idea. Incorporate these into your daily diet you can get pretty creative with this stuff and it will change your life faster and more than just exercise. Reality is all the sitting is really hard on us all. Gotta get out and at least walk as much as possible.

Yeah the health issues hit like a ton of bricks after 40... I think Lenny has a lot of good advice.. I'd also add you have to FORCE blood to your lower extremities... One of the best ways to do this is utilizing the jump rope... Say you rep 2000 jumps a day, but you split it up over the day, as part of 2 or 3 stops.. If you're healthy enough, please do consult your doctor, I promote the jump rope.. I do about 5k skips a week.. if you're just starting then just do sets of 20 to 50 skips..and then work your way up.. It's a great exercise that engages your WHOLE body..

I never meant to sound as if eating wasn't important.
I remember when I first went OTR. I goofed up, didn't pay attention, drove my A1C up to almost 9. I buckled down on eating. Didn't do hardly any exercise. In 3 months, I got my A1C down to 5.8. It was boring.

I just came across a recipe that all drivers could easily carry in their truck. It addresses cardiovascular disease. A mixture in Oatmeal every morning. Cinnamon, Flax Seed, Blueberries, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Walnuts.

Dive deeper into diet research. You can literally transform yourself via diet alone. Oatmeal wont cut it. Lol oatmeal won’t even make the top 100 cut. Granola = garbage etc…Once you understand what food really potentially does for or against you. I’d invite you to consider using chat GBT to discover the healthiest eating possible. And yes on a truck, yeah, it stinks for a lot of other things but for that (diet topics) it seems to really help. It will help you fully grasp the basics of how to eat, what to eat when and more.

you need to reduce your inflammation via your diet and you need to do it for a extended period of time like 3 to 6 months let your arteries relax and heal. Your doctor will NEVER tell you this stuff. They’ll just tell you follow the food, pyramid or try and eat healthy but you can go so much further in your own. Just tryin to help! I’ve seen too many good drivers get knocked out of the game over what they eat alone.

google Gary Brecka and follow his protocol. He truly knows his stuff. You can reverse your Cardiovascular issues
