Yiur coming in on the end of a industry, so truth is none of us can tell you much, auto driving trucks are already on the road delivering loads with no drivers.

You arestarting fresh in the industry. I would recommend starting in dry van, because basically, you won't load/unload the freight and will just drive etc. Which is enough to do as a newbie. Besides driving, you deal with traffic, time mgmt, fueling, planning etc. With FB, you will also deal with different loads and securment etc as well as the above "duties" . Any FB load needs to be supervised when loading, because after it's loaded, you ain't re-arranging anything. Chains straps , where to place them etc. My point, it's extra responsibilities for a new driver, as opposed to doing dry van, as I explained. I still remember one time loading at the shipper at 430 PM signing the BOL, and being told to move the truck outside the gate to strap and tarp because they were closing at 5 pm. Kinda scary crawling on top of the load with nobody around in case I fell off. Luck to Ya'

We are so far away from that being a reality it is not even funny, will that take some jobs? Yes eventually, but will it take flatbed jobs, no, will it take tanker jobs? No. Will it take dry van jobs mainly doing short trailer moves maybe even some ltl turns, yes but still along ways away from it being a reality. The only way it actually works is if every car on the road is automated and talking to each other and no outside human interaction. Until then 95% of driving jobs are pretty #### safe

Could work at DC's ....self driving robot moving trailers around on the property. Have you seen the wet vacuums at Sams club or Wal mart being self operated. ?

Well no it is actually already here, Self driven truck are being built outsid of Reno already runnong loads to Salt Lake City and Sacramento. Theres nothing special about preload flatbeds and tankers, a trailer is a trailer. They run them down the CA14 freeway inot Los Angeles now, Time get open your eyes.

I'd like to see these preloaded flatbeds and tankers, who gets out of the truck and checks straps every 100 miles? Self driving trucks are going to automatically know about slosh and buck and weight transfer in a tanker? We are at least twenty years away from self driving trucks being common place. The only way it all works is if every vehicle o. The road is autonomous, ad in The human factor and it will go down hill quick. What it will replace is yard moves, moving trailers between plants, there is a lot of day to day stuff that occupies time for people and it could and will be done autonomously, as far as being out in open traffic on the highway with humans operating other vehicles it is a long ways away. If they removed the human factor it probably is only a couple years away, add in weather and about 90 other factors I really don't see it becoming common place until most of us are out of the truck already for years. Read into it instead of just looking at well they are already doing it in certain situations, those are the situations that are going to get replaced, the super easy mundane stuff.
