When people receive the consequences of their decision that is empathy....that thankfully they can't hurt anyone anymore.....you can't save everyone from themselves...

Yes I read it, If there are lives in danger, then block the lane, at least call it in, you dont have to pull over for that. There very well maybe persons injuried that were simply passengers in the crash. If you drive by it and do nothing then your not much as a human being, and you are exactly whats wrong with the world today, and certainly no better than the driver whom was a idiot. You donot have to prove your a bigger idoit, although you already have.

It's a catch 22. Cell coverage is absolute dog#### in some areas I frequent. No bull you can drive for a couple hours without any cell service, so you should stop and at least check on them. On the other hand, many of the major highways are just a single lane each direction, tons of blind corners, straight stretches are not very long and the shoulder is maybe 3 feet wide at best. There's definitely a very real risk of another collision if someone rounds a corner and either clips your vehicle or an oncoming vehicle that's in the wrong lane trying to get around your stopped vehicle.
No really great solution to be had in that scenario but you gotta do what you can with the hand you're dealt. -
Well, you didn't get why these questions were asked.
The liability may not mean much to you, but if someone dies, your company and you yourself may be on the legal hook for it beyond a lawsuit, both criminally and civilly.
Stopping is important, calling the cops is really important, and telling them you were involved is as important as calling them in the first place.
I don't buy the "nowhere to pull over safe", I don't know where this is at, I only know of a few places where this would be a legit claim, but not knowing if there were injuries, and not attempting to find out, shows the level of driver in most cases - not pinning that on the OP but others.
Just remember this industry, NATIONALLY, is a target, with millions at stake just pulling onto the road, it is amazing how many lame excuses are made when there are accidents, especially when the driver doesn't know if someone was hurt or killed.
ALL this BS is created by lazy drivers who treat all of this as if it is a game, them vs. us crap has to go because the public at large doesn't give a crap what we go through, why we are treated like scum both in person and on the road, but most of all, they are not on our side for any issue. Just to add to this, the ambulance-chasing scum lawyers will have more of a reason to go after any truck/driver for any little accident, costing us even more. -
Why do you have to stop the call it in when you weren't involved??? As I said people can call it in without stopping and not everyone is equipped to help ....id argue getting in the way doesn't make you a good human being it makes you a nuisance....
-
He clearly said it was a one lane country like road so must have been a state road duh ....there would be no shoulder just grass and the ditch ..... Again calling the cops is plenty since they simply just ran off the road ....for their ignorant driving I might add ...
-
So you don't know but you're assuming he could pull over ....you know what assuming means
-
You're assuming I am stupid, not a problem. I work in detail, not conjecture, and details matter.
I am assuming the OP isn't detailing where this is for a reason, but looking for validation of his actions.
However, it raises questions, like if it were a single lane country road, then how does traffic pass going the opposite way?
So let's say two things happened with the OP's situation: one is that someone just saw the truck drive away, but did not see the accident, and assumed the truck was at fault.
The other is this: if the driver of the other vehicle that ROLLED OVER was seriously hurt and said the truck hit them and caused the accident.
Unless the OP has a dash cam (which all trucks should have), then the cops may be looking for the driver during an injury investigation, and/or the driver of that other vehicle is looking to sue the crap out of the truck for causing the accident.
Both of those reasons alone seem to bring up the fact that you, as a driver, need to do all you can to protect yourself.wis bang Thanks this. -
Best lunch counter story I heard was a driver had a car messing with him in the middle of the night. Kept passing and slowing down again. Finally about the time he reached the drive tires, he just eased over and put the guy in the ditch. Said he’s never quite forgot the feeling of looking back and seeing the headlights go bobbing out in the ditch and he just kept on going. I don’t have any stories like that. Guess I’m too nice.

The folks here acting like they'd do anything different just to act high and mighty is really something...you older truckers love to point fingers but you're the first to keep driving by another driver on the side of the road if it says Swift or Something on the trailer.... hypocrites in this thread...
