Q: Alleged misconduct of cell phone use? What do you think?

I never had that many "friends", and don't want them either, in order to wear a headset.

I'm a truck driver, I don't go home every night.

 

I’m old enough that if I’m going into an unfamiliar area I have to turn my radio down so I can see better.

 

I'll bet there is a medical or psychological reason for that.
Loud music can tend to overshadow your own thoughts.

 

I don’t either but there’s always that one or two guys, often “co-worker buddies” that have you on their call list that love gabbing while driving…I flat out tell them I don’t blab and drive.

Less distracting than actively carrying on a conversation would be listening to a long podcast or audio book but I try not to do that too much either unless it’s so boring I can’t stand it. (Like “I’m empty on the Ohio Turnpike” boring.)

 

Usually the only way to really enjoy a good song is when you can put the earbuds in or blast the stereo at home while drinking a beer, to where you can give it your full attention. Occasionally a song groove can hit you on the highway but the sound quality ain’t there in most car audio setups. It’s just background noise you’re only
half paying attention to.

 

Ya I have a couple guys that like to call me just to gab. I’m just not into it. I get tired of hearing about the same old problems and same old stories over and over.

 

I have my cell on in the truck, cause I tow people that have screwed up or broke down stuff.
I answer, but tell whoever, "I'm driving, I will call you in 10 minutes when I drop off the current tow."
I have 2 different blue parrot headsets, and earbuds, but the above just seems easier to me.
I have to concentrate on driving, cause it seems I am always surrounded by "idiot driver" swarms.

The only exception is my one daughter, a nurse working 70 hr weeks, and we never see one another.
I slow it down to sub-sonic speeds, in the rt. lane, and you now have an opportunity to actually pass me.
Cherish it; it don't happen often.

 

Not sure what the issue is with driver facing cameras? Invasion of privacy I'm sure is what most would say, I've been driving trucks now with inward facing cameras since 2018 while I admit it did bother me at the begging I've now gotten used to the concept and in some ways they can be of benefit to you. Persons who engage in the use of a cell while driving are just plain looking for trouble, in most states it is illegal subject to a citation there is a reason for this, distracted driving can cause serious vehicular collisions. Are not the lives of other motorists important? Or do we only think of ourselves how would we feel if someone driving a motor vehicle while using their phone collided with one of our family members seriously injuring them in the process, would we still be ok with that?

 

I recently started driving a truck with a driver facing camera. I never thought I would, but honestly it’s already been good. I hit a deer and it was obviously not my fault. Just drive legal and stay off the phone. I keep mine in a holder where I can easily see it since I use it for gps. Never had any issues.
