They did go inside my truck without invitation in the states of AZ and IA trying to find alcohol or incriminating receipts to show I falsified log books.
But, if I hide a gun in my own truck, and if they find it in a jurisdiction with strick gun laws, what's the worst that can happen to me?
Will they let me go with a ticket or will they arrest me on the spot?
Or even more complicated question:
Sometimes they ask at a road side inspection "Any weapons...guns or knives?"
If I lie about it but they go inside and find it, how big of a trouble am I going to be in then? Do I get a slap on the wrist or they're putting me out of service?
I know it is best is to keep your mouth shut but what if...?
What happens if they find a gun?

I resumed driving a truck full time.
I am not into any firearms hobby but I have one at home for home protection.
It is in the safe. I never took it with me on the road but lately I thought about it for self protection but it is impossible to know all the laws everywhere I go.tscottme Thanks this. -
Do you have a concealed handgun license? Truckers can carry with CHL, the problem most drivers face is company policy if you're a company driver... It's considered a violation of company policy so if I was arrested/ticketed I'd try to voluntary resign that job ASAP, otherwise they'll likely fire a driver for those violations.. This is a complicated issue/ scenario, a lot of laws involved, definitely consult an attorney with the "What Ifs".

It probably depends on on the state laws it seem like NY state take that stuff very serious unless you are permit for that state. There are other things you can get that are legal and avoid trouble. I’m no gun law expert, but I can’t imagine actually using one to save yourself. Then trying to deal with problems you probably would have for using it in a state you don’t have the permit to carry one. You better not even thing about crossing into Canada with one who know what they would do.
if you get concealed carry permit then it no problem in that state or other states that also recognize it.FloridaRetired Thanks this. -
No. I don't. I have a firearm owner identification issued to me in the state of Illinois. I could get that concealed carry licence after a course but I heard that in some states like NY or NJ that may not work. So I was curious if I went there with that only, what would I risk in case I'd get caught. How big of a deal is it?

I'm going to buy this one because don't need a permit.
It'll still get the job done!
