I don't think the blame lies with training. You have to have something between the ears that triggers a "I probably shouldn't drive down this road" response. The dragon has signs that clearly tell truckers not to go that way. This Yankee Jim's "road" probably the same but even so what dummy just hops into a semi and drives on whatever roads making turns without thinking actually being brain dead while driving around? That person will learn some very hard and expensive lessons in life.

I'd say better 50%, maybe more than 75%.

"if it ain't on my cell phone screen, it don't exist".

they drive on the shoulder of the road, can't see traffic up ahead, don't actually know where they are and don't know how they got there.

I've asked drivers for a better way out of a shipper, (no gps), and they had no idea how they got there.:confused:o_O

@Numb Yeah I know you're not wrong. It's probably worse than you posted actually.

As an interesting side note I had to google this place named Yankee Jim Road out of curiosity. Turns out Yankee Jim was a rough character from the 1850's California gold rush days. He was a horse thief and that was a gold mining area. Back in those days horse thieves were either shot or hung on the spot.

A lot of drivers don't understand the concept of "if you're screwed, just stop". JUST STOP!! Call the police and they will get you out of it.
I did it twice. Once on a low bridge and once because the factory had permanently closed the inbound gate and the only way out was to back into morning traffic.
Never had a problem, never heard a word.

    With Navigo it probably wouldn't.

I wouldn't put it past the 'new' GlobalNav. That thing will chose some 'interesting ' routes.

I have navigated the dragon in a truck. Years ago, when it was a legal truck route. Now having confessed that, I will add that I swore I'd never try it again! Note, no GPS and no cell phones back then.

I've been through there in a car. It would be navigable by truck, very carefully and slowly, if not for the fact it's one of the most popular motorcycle cruising routes east of the Mississippi River. Endless motorcycles flying thru it day after day. And then there's the car club people in convoys of corvettes or the antique British two seater cars MG's or something they like to run fast thru it too. All that on top of the endless switchbacks, yeah, not happening these days.

In the end it falls on the the driver and as you put it what is between the ears.

Years ago I turned the wrong way leaving Pepsi in Tacoma, WA and ended up on Pacific HWY which has a 20 ton bridge weight limit. Stopped at the sign for a minute, thought about what do I need to do, put on my 4 ways and reversed a few hundred feet down the road even waving at a Tacoma cop in the process, turned around and off I went the correct way.

Most of the time with these situations it seems the thought of stopping and assessing the situation never occurs to them.

Just talked with the Schneider Dollar General driver here at Madera about that driver that went off road near Truckee. It was a seven year veteran driver that did it on purpose.… he said the driver did a conscientious decision to go past multiple signs that said no trucks bridge out, but didn’t care
