I got my CDL back in 2014 and drove truck until 2022. I still have the CDL, but haven't been driving professionally.
I've called around and apparently I will need to do a refresher course to get hired on. I spoke to KLLM for example, and they want me in Jackson for 9 days and then 6 weeks out with a "trainer". Plus 6 month contract and $2000 fee. That's too much for me. Plus I can't be in a truck with another person for that long.
I've spoken to several 1099 Chicago outfits and they all claim I'm hired/pre-approved for a lease, come to Chicago, take drug test, 3 hour orientation and then hit the road. No, out for weeks with a trainer.
So i'm entertaining the thought of a 1099 job for 6 months or so to get re-established in trucking. Has anyone else done this? Are there any 1099 outfits you'd recommend? Is there any other companies I should checkout that aren't 1099 and would hire me without a refresher?
I have a spotless record (driving/criminal), tanker and doubles/triples endorsement. I live in Mississippi not far from Jackson. Looking for OTR, out 3-4 weeks. Dry van or reefer.
Off 3.5 Years and want to go OTR Again

Sounds like you may have to either do a refresher or 1099 gig, but @Chinatown can get you a lot more info on companies, some you may have never heard of... I know Freymiller has a refresher, not sure of the details or contract if any.. All The Best..

You don't need to deal with those 1099 companies or a lease deal.

Try this reefer outfit that runs coast-to-coast.
