Good day,
Ok, here's the situation... I have a 1998 international 4900 series 5 ton truck with a DT466 engine.
When accelerating, and the rpm's reach 1500 and 2000 the engine will stutter and behave as if it is not getting fuel which of course makes the truck stutter and jerk.
In lower gears it is not very noticeable as it flies by 1500 and 2000 rpm fairly quickly. But in 5 or 6th gear it is very noticeable.
This only happens at precisely 1500 and 2000 rpm.
I have found that once the truck reaches optimal operating temperature (180 to 190) this problem fades away.
I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this issue and what I should be looking at to replace or fix to resolve this problem?

What series DT 466 is it?
-
I'm sorry, I am not sure.

Any check engine lights?
Start with some basics.
New fuel filters.
Has the fuel strainer ever been cleaned?
When was the last time the oil was changed?
The HEUI system doesn't like dirty oil. With it running better after warming up it could be your issue. -
I service the truck every 250 hours.
All fluids and filters are regularly changed.
The fuel screen is clean, and no engine lights are on.
The twilight zone part of this problem is that the stutter only happens at exactly 1500 rpm and 2000 rpm. -
That is really odd! The Cam position sensor is a common failure item on that engine. I've never heard of one causing the problem you have but it might be worth replacing it.
