    Hello guys,
I have a 99 Peterbilt 379 with an N14 Celect + in it. I have been having fuel problems for the past month that I have been unable to resolve. The truck will run perfectly fine all day but when I shut it off and immediately try to restart it, it will not start, I have to give it a shot of starting fluid. I have gone thru 7 Donaldson fuel filters and I believe I have the correct type (P551000 & P551311). I know the engine side filter has to have the tube in the filter so it draws from the bottom. Twice after changing filter the truck ran flawless for a few days then the starting issue started happening again. I replaced the check valve at the cooling plate and have inspected it a few times as well. No fuel leaks anywhere either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you sure it's fuel? Any ECM codes?

Not sure what tube you are talking about.
I had the spin on type that went on the fuel pump. Spin on type that went on remote bracket with fuel line from tanks then went to the fuel pump. I used a FS1000 filter. Also had the Davco filter system.

When you change the spin on filter make sure you remove the old O-ring. This has caused a loss of prime. Another problem was the cooling plate had a pin hole leak.

Do you need starting fluid to start every time? What are the conditions to start truck without starting fluid.

We figured it out. It was a bad camshaft/crankshaft position sensor.

My recent experience with (3) Donaldson P551000, they all sucked air. I would buy a case at a time and I'm not sure what the deal was, but every one out of that case would cause me issues. Switch to Fleetguard FS1000 or CAT 256-8753 and problem immediately solved.

    Steve2454 Thanks this.
