I was going to ask you why you are giving up horse shoeing, but now I see. Yeah, its hell on ones back. My shoer uses a deal that he rests the horses leg in so he doesn't have to hold it up. Seem to work pretty good and it saves your back.

Check out the redi mix companies in your area. Any time you can make a personal appearance when you apply is better then just calling or sending in a app. Use the internet and try and find out the name of the hiring person when you apply.

See if you can get on the family dollar account with them and it would probably be worth a shot, if anything you'd probably enjoy it more than CRST.

I went to USX orientation in Tunnel Hill GA. You will take a overnight bus trip to Atlanta and change buses in Atlanta. You will get off at Dalton or Chattanooga. Choose to leave on Saturday for a Sunday road test. You get $50 extra. If you go to Dalton, call the Budget Inn and they will pick you up. If you go to Chattanooga, call US Xpress. Do not call Covenant like a couple do.

Road test: They will pair a experienced driver and a student together. The experience driver goes first and you drive last. You will either do a alley dock, 45' or straight back. I have heard that students automatically pass from some instructors.

Hotel: The Budget Inn is in my opinion subpar. The internet hardly works, and a lot of the rooms lack microwaves and refrigerators. If you choose to get your own, it is $15.00 extra per night. The places to eat are Mexican resturant next door, a Wendys in the same plaza, a Chinese buffet in the Walmart plaza and a restaurant in the bar in the hotel.

Orientation: Your first day is road test if you have not done it already. Also you do your physicals and drug tests. The second day is more paperwork, and watching videos and other boring stuff that you did not complete prior to coming up. Provide proof of every job by the tax return, first and last pay stubs, and if you were in the military, school provide proof of transcripts, DD214, honorable discharge papers. If you are hiding something or got fired, USX will know. Their back ground check is one of the most comprehensive I have seen.

99% sure you will do everything again, especially a road test, but expect to do your DOT physical again as well, and pretty much every time in between if you choose to go with another company. I don't know about USX but most companies want you ready to go as soon as you wrap up orientation. I hope things get moving for you though, it's much easier to just get out there and get started and get the process going, a lot of sitting at home can make you start to wonder if you made the right choice and that is never good for a "newb".

    MC,

See my previous post. That answer a lot of your questions. USX is team only for Florida and teaming can be tough, especially for a newbie coming right out of the gate. A lot of their freight is time sensitive meaning be prepared to drive for 11hours and switch drivers.

    Did Windy Hill contact you????

I wouldn't say USX in Florida is team only, they haul family dollar freight out of Marianna, Fl and that is solo work as advertised in my local paper.
