It is just my opinion, and I do not know your instructors, but I got a funny look when I mentioned Schneider to my instructors. Nothing negative was said, but they sure did push me toward the companies that were represented by applications in the office.
Could these schools possibly get a kick back from companies that hire through them?
I don't know that to be the case, but it sure is food for thought. I wonder where my school's instructors got their Werner hats, TMC note pads, US Express pens, etc........hmmmmm. It makes ya wonder.

The school I went to, 4 years ago refused to discount or recommend any company, including those that had recruiters come in. They felt it was unethical to do that. On that note, I think I'd go with that number 5 school. So you went to 5 schools, but discounted SNI because they discontinued their school?
I hope I've missed something here.
At any rate, good luck in whatever you decide.

Thanks for the well wishes.
I did actually call 5 schools for pricing and carrier recommendations, what recruiters visited the schools and so on? I went with school number 5 that does not favor any company, the schools trainer has 18 years experience. She said every company has pros and cons. She stays pretty neutral and just gives info on what she knows. Pretty nice no pressure to go one way or another. -
Great!!! Sounds like we think a bit alike.
Looks like you saw through the BS from the other schools
. IMO, getting your license on your own, if possible, is the best way to go. That way you're not indentured to anyone.
venne Thanks this. -
Yeah, thats what i did, went to a private school to get my CDL. Now through a mountain of research, since last november, I think schneider might be my choice to cut my teeth. But the reason for posting the thread is to keep getting info and to keep learning, remember, schools are'nt making you and me a truck driver their just helping us to get a CDL
.
venne, one37, johnday and 1 other person Thank this. -
You're totally right about the schools, they'll even tell you that. The one I went to, would help me get placed even now, from what I remember, and I've been gone for almost 4 years. They were one above board outfit I've learned since I graduated from them.

The school I chose is Sage Technical Services. They offer job placement now and in the future if I would decide to move and change companies. I did plenty of research and found them to be one of the top schools for training. No more than 5-6 in a class and your driving time is 1 student and 1 trainer. That's what appealed to me. NO sitting and watching someone else drive. Hope you all have a great day.

Up until about a year ago these schools were competing with Schnieder for students. They ran one of the best schools in the industry. That may have had something to do with a schools animosity towards them.
I almost went there but decided to go the Sage school route. Had I not gotten hired at Superior I could very well have wound up training on tankers with them.
They are very safety conscious. In fact just last weekend they were presented an award by Public Citizen of all groups for the work done for drivers with sleep apnea. That group is extremely anti trucking. They actually buy and install the true sine wave inverters the machines require. Contrast that with many companies that simply won't hire someone with a BMI high enough to be screened.
They bring drivers in for seasonal training on simulators as well. You could do worse. Much worse.johnday, 90125-2 and difference-maker Thank this. -
Good pointe, you could have hit the head on the nail, or is that nail on the head?

Does a provisional hire with them go on one's DAC ? Or does that happen after the drug / alcohol & physical testing ?
