Get’s even better,we just fired a driver yesterday because he violated 2 shutdown orders and jackknifed his truck! Brand new T-680 that’s more than likely going to be totaled due to the extent of the damage. Most of Pennsylvania was under a shutdown order due to the winter storm, both from the company and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Electronic signs along I-81 clearly stated: “NO EMPTY COMMERCIAL VEHICLES”. What does he go and do? Hammer down and ends up jackknifing. The impact almost ripped the cab off the chassis, both drive axles were knocked out of alignment. The wrecker driver was actually using load straps to keep the cab on the chassis while towing!upnorthwpg, 48Packard, Lonesome and 6 others Thank this.

I remember years ago some local O/O told me he mixed kerosene into his diesel to keep it from gelling in the winter. Can't imagine what that did to his diesel fuel pump....
-
Kerosene and jp8 (jet fuel) are just really really high grade diesel, they can all technically run on any of the 3 how ever kerosene will not lubricate and run it hot as hell. I have heard plenty of people saying they add it as a fuel additive in the winter up here, but it is definitely not recommended
cke and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
What the world?!?!?!?! I don't even know where to begin with that one. I think he killed his career for at least a few years!!!
-
When I worked driving in Iraq, everything the military had ran on JP8. From the jets to rolling stock to portable generators. Made sense logistically to have only one type of fuel to transport.Lonesome, Suspect Zero, RockinChair and 1 other person Thank this.

Yep. We regularly used it through the winter months, so stuff would run in ~10°F. And, we’d soak rags in mogas and put them over the air intake, as makeshift ether. Ether was too violent and weak batteries simply couldn’t crank against it. The violence is why I still use brake cleaner as starting fluid, these days.Lonesome Thanks this.

Below 10 degrees I kept the truck running to avoid fuel gelling and DEF freezing. Did you do the same at -50?
You failed to mention any real details about your testing.
And at around 15 or lower degrees for a few days it seemed all the DEF pumps at truck stops froze up and stopped working, here in the lower 48.
Did they test for that as well? Did they find any solutions for that problem? -
So you fired him because he needed the miles to get his full paycheck, and all he did was wreck your truck?
Outlandish.
I was in a wreck and I thought my truck was totaled. (Not my fault, by the way. I was given a different truck the next day after they saw the dashcam footage.)
A few months later they told me my truck was ready to pick up in Phoenix.
That was my special truck. It was my million mile truck reward from Swift.
Perfect inside and out, like it was brand new.
Swift hired (used?) prison laborers to do the work.
The truck was plenty torn up, but they got it back like new. -
He was terminated because he violated the shutdown orders.
The company issued a shutdown order at the time because of the winter weather. They send notices on the ELDs and call the drivers to tell them to find somewhere safe to park and shutdown. We get inclement weather pay for that.
Even more serious is he violated the shutdown order issued by Pennsylvania. They clearly stated at the time that restrictions were in place-no empty commercial vehicles, all CMVs had to use the right lane & a 45 mph speed restriction(he was pulling an empty trailer when he jackknifed). PA State Police is fed up with all the truck wrecks so nowadays they put restrictions/prohibitions in place if any winter weather is forecasted to make a significant impact.
