I know trucks, have run Volvos for years, I do not know Petes. Save your #####in' about Volvos, help me out with some Pete questions please.
Considering a couple with X15s with 13 speed manuals, lots of them are 3:36 ratio.
What kind of fuel mileage would I see pulling standard dry van freight with this combo?
What year did Pete switch to the one box emissions?
How reliable were the X15's around the 2020 mark. Looking ideally at late teens to early 20's. There's a joke in there somewhere.
Looking at some 579's

I don't know much about X15, but the other day I was at Volvo dealership, I overheard a parts guy giving someone quotes at $10k for turbo and I think $1800 per injector

If @Midwest Trucker is still around i think hes running a similar setup? I know my flatbed experience is not gonna help you. Ive never gotten better than 6.5 averge pulling flat with the cummins. Im guessing a van will be in the mid 7s have no idea tho. .. the x15s have the same problems as the 2350s and the 2250s of dropping liners and blowing the head gaskets. The last company i was with was rebuilding a couple of then before 250k. And then others would have 0 problems at all. Seems like just luck of the draw..well they are easy to work on, if thats any help. You can have the head pulled in a day if ur good with wrenches. I think the silent killer in the cummins is the emissions stuff, especially used trucks you really dont know what u got or how someone maintained it. If at all.

Cummins emissions changed to single canister set up in 2017EPA . Maybe some late 2016 builds but 2017MY and up.
Regen intervals went from 25 hours to 100. -
I do some work for a bunch with 579 Pete’s. 21 models i believe. Pulling high cube vans. 450hp X-15 13 speeds (not 100 percent sure on ratio) any way their dash display shows 7.5 and up when they run one over here for service

Honestly these days I think a Volvo would be a smarter choice than a Paccar product.
BoostedTeg, Sons Hero and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Well, I for sure won't buy a Paccar engine product but maybe the right Pete or KW if I can find it.
What I'm looking for that isn't easy to find, especially in a Volvo, is a real truck. Less plastic. I'm sick of tearing up lower side fairings and plastic bumpers. Even behind my bull bar plastic bumpers are vulnerable because they are so low.
Ideally I want a regional type rig with explosed tanks/boxes, manual shift (almost can't find in a Volvo anymore) and still with a high top sleeper and not stretched out. My Volvo is 260" wheelbase, stretched a couple feet from a standard 860. It's more of a pain in the ### than it is cool to drive.
These seem to be easier to find in a Pete/KW or maybe even a later model Mack than Volvo or Cascadia.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Me personally if it was my money and i was buying newer i would go with a kw and the 990 or the t680 . The interior design is like 200 times more better than peterbilt.. the 500 series peterbilt dash and sleeper is a bit rough on the eyes compared to KW... Last company i was with, specced a bunch of t680s with 13 speeds and x15 cummins, agl400 suspension stretched to 300 wheelbase from the factory. No fairings or any plastic crap on the tanks . All 2023 and newer. The one in the pic is a 2025. really nice rigs, some of the nicest trucks ive ever run. Perfect if ur doing otr or regional stuff.
86scotty, Oxbow, OldeSkool and 1 other person Thank this.
