Oh no doubt. I've also seen trucks not slow down for a changing light when they clearly had enough space to stop safely and just didn't want to wait. My point was that it occasionally happens and in most cases both the truck and the curb are fine.

I’m changing my answer. Do NOT split the lanes, because you can’t without crossing the double yellow line and the will be an automatic fall. You can only split the lanes if there are 2 or more lanes.

what they are giving you is kind of a trick turn to see how you handle it in my opinion. Remember you need 4 or 3 lanes to make a right turn. You count the lane you’re in as 1 lane. That means the road you are turning on to you will need 3 or 2 lanes.

If the road your are turning right onto only has 1 lane because the next lane is for a car or truck turning left. You can only make the turn if no traffic is in the left turn lane. Say for example the road you are turning right onto only has 1 lane going right and the next lane is for traffic going straight. You have the same problem you can’t make the turn with the cars or trucks in the lanes. You know this because you will need 3 or 2 lanes to actually make the turn.

So here is the trick part of the turn. You have sit and wait till the other traffic is gone before you make the turn. That means even if you have a green light you have sit and wait till the traffic moves. They are probably testing you to see if you will what till all the traffic is clear before making the turn. Even if you have sit thru a green light or 2.

if no traffic is in the other lanes then you got lucky and turn and go. If traffic is there you will have to wait till you have 3 or 2 lanes open. That turn looks pretty tight and you will probably need 3 lanes or the entire road to make that right turn. So you will be forced to wait till the other traffic get green lights and moves. Then you can turn right on red.

When I did my test 15 years ago splitting lanes for a turn was a fail. Had to take the space from the road you were turning into.

So if you have given up on passing the test why are you still here posting?

Are you just a glutton for punishment or just another troll?

Well, I tried, but perhaps this person SHOULDN'T be in a truck, copped an attitude. Look, Tall Mike is a cool guy, and in fact, most here really want to help, but our patience is limited. We hear this time and time again. I'm 71 years old, spent my life in the biz, and sorry, from what I gather, you don't have "it". You are far too hung up on right turns, that are intimidating, but as experienced professionals, we've seen the ones that make it and the ones that don't. Right turns shouldn't be the worst, heck, many of us with large cars, that COULDN'T make the turn, had to go 4 miles ahead, turn around, and make a left turn, it was not that hard. See, the thing is, like I said before, many of us never had to "learn" how to drive a truck, and right turns and curbs are but a small part of what you might experience, and many times, are not familiar with what to do, and that's a problem. Like I said, you can do it, but you have to lose the attitude. It will get you nowhere in this business.

Here’s a few I encounter in my usual travels.
    Easy…

Tight, but doable with no oncoming traffic. You’ll catch the curb here if there’s a car at the stop line and you don’t split the lane beforehand.

This one I won’t attempt except in the middle of the night, along with a left coming from the opposite direction. Fortunately I know another route to get to the businesses on that street.

All of this is with a 48’ liftgate with the axles slid back because I hate tailswing.

I could give someone 100 different reasons to run in the other direction away from this lousy racket. . But failing a road test or three is not one of them. Should be no factor. Quitting rather than paying the small fee and trying again would be like folding to a one dollar raise when you've put 400 in the pot already. Throw the measly dollar in and see another card at least. Think of it as a cheap practice session.
