    Hi, all!

In a bit of a pickle here perhaps. Myself and a family member are enrolled in school starting in April. Oak Tree Technical. 6-week program.

We are wanting to work as a pre-formed team after graduating.

    Upon graduating, we will have:
    • Doubles/triples, tankers & HAZMAT endorsements (doubles/tanker already acquired with permit)
    • TWIC cards
    • 160-hour certifications
    Here’s the rub:
    • Vero Beach, FL
    • South of I4
    • New grads (obviously)
As I’m sure many are familiar with, nearly every call results in one or more of the following:
    • “We require 6+ months experience.”
    • “We don’t hire in your area.”
    • “We don’t offer teams.”
To make matters worse, due to various life circumstances, have no work record for over a decade.
We had savings we were living off and some cash rentals, so no employment/tax records.

We’d prefer to avoid being separated during weeks+ of training/mentorship. Covenant was the only one we found who’d keep us together. Covenant can’t hire us due to location.

No, no conveniently located pals to share an address with north of I4.

We ultimately wanted to get into team-oriented doubles/triples with a company like FedEx. But it appears there’s some stepping-stones to find before we get there?

Armellini is allegedly hiring but I get mixed answers from them on whether they’ll take new grads or need 6+ months experience. And we couldn’t pair as a team for as long as a year or so with them.

Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!
We’re really wanting to work and are very much looking forward it!

    Thanks, all!

Another driver on here changed his address and address on his CDL without having to actually move North of I-4.
    Here's what he used:

Haven't heard from his since he did this, so don't know the final outcome.

Couple of companies that might let you train together in the same truck at the same time:
    ~
Team truck driving jobs - Schneider
Schneider team drivers pair up to earn the biggest money and miles, with premium loads and equipment. Learn more and search all team truck driving jobs
Schneider expands Jet-Set driving jobs, adds new driver perk
    ~
    Driver Openings - C.R. England
Whether you need a CDL, a truck driver job, or both, we have you covered.
(May have changed their policy on team training. Used to be new cdl school grads and might now require 3 mos. experience.) Call to find out.

My suggestion is to move. FL is almost a black hole in trucking. Another suggestion is work separately. Please don't tell me how inconvenient it would be or what your hopes were unless you also explain why you did ZERO research before CDL school. Being an adult means looking before you leap. Since you didn't look you may not land where you dreamed. If I wanted to be a mountain climber but refused to leave Kansas, I've painted myself into a corner.

Hello does anyone know what the escapees address is in Florida,
Aug 20, 2025 · Jerry Allen Reeves 4602 County Rd 673, Bushnell, FL. 33513 352-793-1333 This small park was sold recently but I understand they will continue the Escapees program.

This one in Bushnell is North of I-4. Some drivers that live in South Florida moved their address to Bushnell. I think you also have to register your car or vehicle there, then can change your CDL address also.

@Chinatown Thank you for the suggestions! The hitch with changing address is FL Homestead. Your license should reflect your homestead, and we’re disinclined to try duping the tax man!
It’s useful info nonetheless! Just needs someone not tied to homestead tax protections. Had to do a crash-course on that after your thoughts!
    Thank you!

Schneider is an option if they have team-driving positions open; it sounds like they only separate teammates for about a week on the road from what I heard over the phone.

C.R. England requires three months and isn’t hiring out of FL except very north — I.E. Jacksonville.

@tscottme Being an adult also means making mistakes and learning from them! Plenty of research done prior to enrolling, as well as changes in end goals as we learned and adapted. All part of life. We’re trying to thread a particularly specific needle but you miss every shot you don’t take! Just have to be willing to try again and adjust if you miss.
Florida is definitely a tricky one! Thankfully there’s a handful of fallbacks in FL, they just don’t tick all the boxes.
In any case, I hear there’s some pretty good rock-climbing places in Kansas and sometimes you have to make do.

@lual Thank you! I’ll give them a ring and see what they say!

Many drivers in South Florida use the Bushnell address for the cdl, but still live in South Florida.
Personal choice. Trucking companies don't give a crap about that. They hire based on the address on your cdl.
Homestead is not familiar to me. You have the details on that.

Roadtex is a team outfit with a facility in Miami and Orlando.
Don't know if they still hire new grads or not.

You might be able to just fly home. Look for company that will hire you both. When want to go home leave truck at company terminal and fly home. You will be driving 5,000-6,000 miles a week. I don’t think it would be a big expense. You have to be willing to go out couple weeks at a time. Once you get some more experience you can be more picky and hopefully find something out of Florida as team.
