Here is an idea, a bachelor theme like the other show! Start with 25 bachelor drivers following the girl in her truck. They would be smooth talking her on the CB and while trash talking the other dudes as well. Then when the lady driver needs to take a break the best one of her choice gets the short meet at the rest area. Then on the elemination night the lady starts slashing tires.

You could do the Deadliest Catch approach to this. You could pick out 4-5 drivers, each in a specialized division such as Flatbed, Reefer, Van, Heavy Equipment, etc. Put a camera man with each one or install cams and record the daily life of that driver, his daily paper work, load and securement, dealing with the DOT, home time, changing weather conditions and the motoring public.
Every day is an adventure in this business and showing how the truck driver lives and handles pressure that the average person could only imagine, would be a positive. People need to see that we are an educated, intelligent class of people, not the pot bellied redneck that the media portrays us to be.

    Charissa,

I think if you made an expose type docudrama following a bunch of recruits into one of the CDL mill type trucking companies, like CR England, you'd do a great deal of service to the general public as well as the trucking industry in particular.
I honestly believe a great deal of light should be shed upon the current state of affairs and the onerous regulations foisted upon the American Trucker. Since Deregulation of the trucking industry, the costs of transporting goods has decreased dramatically, but the safety of our roads has been jeopardized.
Many of the practices of major transportation companies would improve drastically with a little "hidden camera therapy".

    1) The first thing you do, is to not watch shows like "ice-road truckers" "deadliest catch" and other bullcrap shows on the history channel and try to model your show just like it. Unfortunately, reading your description, this seems to be exactly what you are trying to do.

No. You don't do that. What you do is watch a show like, for example 3-2-1- contact (you probably don't know what 321 contact is, so in that case please go to you tube and type it in) and observe how they examine and describe things.

Get deep into technical matters. Don't gloss over anything. Talk about air/fuel filters. Show exactly how to do a log. Keep an exact tally of the driver's mileage and exact pay. Show exactly how sliding tandems work and why they exist. Discuss superwides vs. conventional duals. Talk about why motorists should not hang around in the blind spots.

    2) DO NOT PLAY CRAPPY MUSIC THROUGHOUT THE SHOW. Really, you should not be playing any music at all except at the beginning and end. If you insist on playing music throughout the show, then make it good.

So, basically it boils down to----do you want to do the right thing or do you want to sell out?

If you have to come on here and ask for ideas, then i've probably wasted my energy typing all this.............

P.S. The whole wanting a family owned company with colorful characters=horse product.

Sounds like extreme towing---another bulls--t show.

    Seriously man, grow some ovaries.

P.P.S. Here is what i think of your lame idea:

The fact that you are asking for some family owned company with "colorful" characters proves you don't know how to make a good show.

You don't know what a good show is.

    Go take a ##### dump.

    And before any of you macho types accuses me of not treating this clown like a lady, she isn't a lady;

    Selling out is not ladylike!

I'm actually inclined to agree with most of the drivers here. You can't just approach truckers in such a ham-handed way. There are a vary large proportion of drivers who have a higher college degree than you do. If what you are looking for is a back-woods Arkansas farm-hand with no teeth who got lucky enough to get a couple trucks and grow his biz a little, I'd suggest going to Arkansas and asking around. But be careful what you ask for...you might just get it.

The reality is, there is no Rubber Duck. There is no Bandit. It's just a bunch of people out here trying to make a living like everyone else on this Earth. If you're looking for drama and comedy, well, I think you're barking up the wrong tree. There's plenty of comedy out here (or at least clowns...) but not the kind that will make good TV.

If you want to approach such a closed community as truckers (REAL truckers...not young hotshots) you don't just barge in and expect to have the welcome wagon rolled out for you. You have to earn the respect and trust of truckers. Just like you wouldn't just mosey onto the Reservation without an invitation. Or a biker hangout....or any other similar situation. I'd say hang out on the forum for a while, lurk around to see how we talk to each other, learn what happens when somebody steps on his d**k and ease your way into this.

It's a whole lot easier to get into a lion's den without getting hurt if you ease in rather than barge in.

    Just a suggestion
