it took me 7 days and $132.60 to get my TWIC, and $60 for passport ID card. They don't mail back the birth certificate with passport for identity theft reasons. think about it, If i steal that envelope, I now have a id card I can change the image on, and your BC that I can now go get all kinds of new ID cards with my pic on and do all kinds of damage to your credit and your life. thats why they mail back seperately.
Twic card?

$132.50 plastic or check only - no cash. You have to apply for it one day, and then go back a couple of months later (to the same office) to get it initialized.
The will take off something like $28 if you substitute the hazmat background check for part of the TWIC process - it does tie it to your license though. When the license expires, the TWIC card will expire as well. If you pay the $132.50, the TWIC card is good for 5 years.
At least that's how it worked when I got mine... -
when I got mine Ironpony, 7 days i had it. Its good though for 5yrs. I don't have hazmat so I dont know about that part. the process they said has picked up. avg 7-14 days now.

It varied when I got mine as well - that was right after the program started. Near a "real" port (boats, water, etc) most places didn't take very long. I got routed to a convenient point for the freight lanes I was running (St. Louis) and it took forever.
