Trainee runs over, kills driver trainer

What a sad situation.

 

Ooopss. Um, why was a driver working on the air system of the truck? Ain't that still against company policy? Cause Werner used to be real nitpicky about what the driver could do to the truck, versus what had to go through a qualified tech. Driver could replace light bulbs (from the ground), add oil, coolant, and windshield washer fluid, and air up the tires. Little mickey mouse stuff like that which every driver regardless of vehicle should know. Anything else, I thought, had to go to the appropriate shop. Maybe things have hanged.

 

br they are probably still the same... someone just made a poor choice and the trainee made a mistake... SAD...

Anytime you are under your truck there should be no one in it. That is just sad....

 

Drug for 30 feet????

 

Sounds like the trainee mashed on it... like when that lot lizard got whacked down in "The Volunteer." Still, an ugly situation, and one which could have been prevented. I don't know about you guys, but if I see something that doesn't look right, or that looks downright dangerous, I'll speak up and point out that danger, even though I'm generally a hand who minds his own out there... the same way that I would holler over the CB or blast my air horn at some driver about to back into something. He might not like it at the time, but he'll thank me later for saving him time and money.

 

Rule #1....never move the rig unless one team member is in full view of the other. We lost a driver earlier this year in a similar situation.

The way things are worded in media coverage are often vague at best. "Attempting to fix an air line" covers an awful lot of ground...could have been anything from a major leak to a spring support....who knows for sure?

God, this is sad for all involved.

 

Very unfortunate for everyone involved. I imagine this trainee's career is over before it even started.
