Here's the rule.
I found this too, lists the requirements for intrastate marking required by different states.heyns57 Thanks this. -
Think it is bad now, should have seen it before deregulation.
You use to have numbers for every state you drove in.
You also had tags from all states you had authority in. -
US DOT-----United States Dept of Transportation
ICC--------- Interstate Commerce Commosion
KYU--------Kentucky something? -
Also a VIN # is required
-
Just the last 6 or 8 digits......
-
My understanding on the KYU is its only required if your out of Kentucky now. many companies now only have ICC/MCC and us dot and last 8 of the vin. some put the truck number in same spot as well.
-
KY looks up your KYU account by your DOT# now. They prefer you have your KYU# on the truck if the KYU account you're using isn't in the name of the carrier whose DOT# you're using, but they don't require it. That's my current situation, I'm leased to a carrier but I have my own KYU and IFTA accounts, I do not have my KYU# on my truck and I haven't had a problem.
As per the rule I linked to earlier, you only need to display your legal name as listed on your MCS-150 and your USDOT#. You MAY display other information (KYU, VIN, MC, etc) but it is not required. Yeah, you'll get stopped every time you cross a scale in CO, but you don't have to display your VIN#. This is all assuming you're doing interstate hauling, that other link I posted will tell you about each state's intrastate requirements.dmg1029 Thanks this. -
this in an interesting thread. I just upgraded my tractor and want to go as simple as I can without causing problems.
USDOT
Name on MCS-150
last 6 of VIN (or 8?)
and MC.
I guess. -
The info I posted on CO says last 8 digits. As far as I can tell, you don't need to display your MC# on your truck. It's a handy place to have it if you can't remember it though! Look at some of the major carriers' trucks-many of them don't display their MC#.
