I left because, even dedicated, the pros were being out-weighed by the cons.

I drive flat bed for them, i make .29 cents a mile plus 23 for tarping...i get quite a few miles and am making decient pay right now

 

.29 per mile? Ewww, I made more that my very first day behind the wheel.

 

BTC will start you # .37, $25 tarp and $150 min.load pay...

Ya i know their not the greatest in all but they gave me a chance. I heard that once you hit 6month to a year they start pushing owner op on you. if you don't your miles start dropping.....i currently have no problem getting 2500 miles a week right now, usually never sit anywere, they slave drive the new guys because their cheaper!!
Once i get a handle of things i want to lease or buy but probably not here though

 

i was with them for 3 1/2 years. i did great until about summer of 2008 when they became militant about drivers signing on to the fleece-purchase. there were many times that i had received messages on my qualcomm about "owning" the 2009 mid-roof volvo i had been operating. they were telling me things like, "oh come on, it's only 750 a week. this is a great opportunity for you to run your own business!" after they finally got the message, my miles were dropping off, and i was sitting 2-7 days between loads. for the last 4 months, i never got to deliver a load to its destination. all i did was pick up a load and take it to a yard along the way.

the writing was on the wall when i had sat in miami, fl for an entire week. i kept seeing newbies rolling in to the truck stop, and they were getting loads out of there within 2 days. i inquired many times for a load and all i got back was, "there is nothing available." a week passed by and i finally got a load to pick up out of the port of miami and take it to their ocala yard. at that yard, i sat for another 6 days until i got a load to mobile, al. the process repeated itself until i finally left in march of 2009.

 

I just quit today after 9mos . just could not deal with the b.s. anymore. now just hope to be able to land different job soon, hope the dac's not messed up to bad. 100% on time, never turned down a load, see what happens

 

You quit a job before lining up another one??? That's risky.

I worked with Swift for a year. I never had a problem getting miles even during the "slow" time. I was able to collect the mileage bonus every month except one (February) while I was there. I hear these stories so much, but in my experience, it came from the drivers sitting around the gossip table saying they just turned a load down because it wasn't worth their time to run less than 300 miles. I would ask whether they talked to their DM's about it and usually, no. Why? DM's a butt...can't talk to him/her because he/she hates me. Why does he/she dislike you? I won't run short loads. That's when I roll my eyes and walk away.

I only left because I had some friends who had a tiny company and were offering me a truck if I'd run for them. I took them up on it, but the business folded because of the American Axel strike. They had a contract running parts for American Axel...paid really good, too. In the mean time, I got a dog that I'm not willing to abandon for anyone, so I found a company who would let me have him with me. Prime. And I'm not happy here.

But I'm not going to quit before I have something else lined up. I might not be making much of a paycheck, but I'm making something.

 

I currently drive a daycab for Swift so I'm at the terminal on a daily basis. Just tonight a driver was asking about a load and when offered a 225 mile load, he said no and "that ain't #### to run." A few hours later, I got back to the terminal to do something and saw the same driver sitting in the lounge. He was actually complaining to two others that he wasn't making anything on this week's check and that he was stuck "again tonight" because there was no freight for him to run. I hear this day in and day out. It makes no sense to me.
