So I just got off the phone with the IL DMV and they said that no matter what you have to take the road and the pre trip test in the state of IL even if you have your CDL and no matter how long you have had it. I am in a jam bcause I am tryng to take a refresher course in CA where I am stationed at in the military and that would gve me a CA CDL which I would need to transfer over to IL once I got back there. Anybody know anything that would help me out here or have any advice what so ever? O yeah the other thing is of course I would need to supply my own vehicle to do this.
Cd transfer over to il

Move out of IL. LOL They passed this law a few years ago in response to a couple of CDL mills not properly testing drivers and taking payoffs to issue CDL's. (can you say Eastern European)
-
LOL This is BS... Anyways I figured it out. I can either take the test with a friends truck or I can just get a CDL for NC and have the address at my In-Laws house.

That explains it...probably has something to do with the news reports of corrupt schools outside of Illinois. I guess they forgot about our own CDL scandal inside the sec. of state office when Ryan was in charge...

Another main reason Illinois does this is back in 1994. A pastor, his wife, and their 9 children were traveling on I94 WI where a piece of flying metal flew off a truck driven by an IL driver who had obtained their cdl through a bribe.
It caused the fuel tank on the Willis' families van to engulf the car in flames. They lost 6 of their children and the remaining survivors have severe burns.
I grew up about 6blocks from their church, its a very sad story and shows some peoples absolute strength in their faith and willingness to forgive

Although they require you to retake the written, skills, and road tests. Illinois' road testing at some of their locations is probably some of the easiest you'll encounter in the country. At South Holland, its like a 10-15min drive around the neighborhood. -
Illinois passed this law not long after I moved to Indiana.
When I found out about it and thought about all the other downfalls the higher ups in that state have created, I made up my mind that I'd never live in IL again. -
On top of it, Illinois made it a lot more difficult to obtain your cdl.
They now require like 150hrs of instructional by a state approved teacher.
That basically says, you need to go to school, which is $2k for a barely english speaking teacker at the lowest and $4k average for the rest.
Although I believe IL does have a program for unemployed people to help fund them getting a cdl.
The days of practicing with your buddies truck and taking the test have ended in IL -
I'll sell my IL CDL to the highest bidder. Gotta be worth $10K

One of these days I'll get switched to TN. I have until next year, lol -
Lol
Now does TN just accept out of state cdls provided you have the normal "proof of residence" documents. No testing?
I know MO accepts neighboring states that touch their borders without testing as long as you have "por" -
Yeah I remember that accident on 94. I understand why they are doing it now but we know who to thank for that. Gov. Ryan what a POS. I hope his cell mate is his good buddy now if you know what I mean....
