Cheap ba$tard I work for refuses to fix the AC in the truck...says he can't see paying good money to increase his cost of doing business....that fixing the AC would only encourage me to idle the truck unnecessarily burning his fuel just to be "comfortable"...tells me to roll the windows down if I'm rolling, and get my lazy butt out of the truck and find a shady spot to sit if I'm delayed somewhere.
This will be my 3rd summer without it.
My side box is full of tools....not much room left for a bunch of random parts that may or may not wear out.
Napa (and most other parts stores) will deliver parts to you just about anywhere. You call 'em up, tell 'em what you need and where you are, and pay with a credit card over the phone. They bring it out to you (even to the side of the road somewhere...as long as you know where you are and can pass that info on to them, they can find you.![]()

I'd be telling my boss that he needs to be driving the truck instead of me.
You must need that job badly.....I wouldn't have gone 3 DAYS without A/C.
Unless...of course...if the Cheap Ba$tard of a boss you're talking about looks at you in the mirror each morning.
If that's the case....slap him around some and then have him get your A/C fixed.

Problem is, there were bolts missing which were supposed to hold the charge air cooler and the condenser in place. Charge air cooler has been repaired...condenser has not. Condenser also has a hole worn through where it was rubbing on the grille. Since it's been 2+ years since I bought the truck, the compressor is also probably shot, considering the refrigerant lubricates it...and all of the refrigerant escaped out of the gaping hole in the condenser. The dryer will also need replacing. Once all of the parts & pieces are replaced, the system needs to be evacuated and then charged. If I'm lucky, it'll work. If I'm not, there will be more parts & pieces to change, then go through the whole evacuation and charging process again.
It'll be cheaper and easier to replace the rear glass with a sliding window, which will effectively upgrade my 2-70 air to 3-70 air. That will cost 1 month's truck payment, so it won't be done until the first month I DON'T have one of those.
It just isn't something I view as a "necessity", so I'm not in a big hurry to spend the money to fix it if/when it breaks. Even here at the house, I've only run the AC one day in the past 2 years. It works, I just don't turn it on until I'm uncomfortable. When it gets to the point where I can't sit in a chair sippin' some sweet tea under a ceiling fan without sweating, I turn the AC on 5 degrees below the temp inside the house...just enough to pull the humidity out of the air without making the house feel like a walk-in cooler (and outside the house feel like a blast furnace). -
one time i had the ac on my apu quit in the winter. i only knew about it because i took it to a carrier dealer and they found and fixed the problem...they check all functionality on them when they get ahold of them...

You must have never noticed but when you turn on the defroster and the air vents up by the windshield are blowing air your A/C compressor is running.
Check it out sometime. Turn the truck on and have somebody turn the selector to the defrost setting while the hoods popped and your watching the compressor clutch. I will bet you that clutch engages and states spinning the compressor. -
You should kick your bosses ### and make him buy you a few beers... Or date his girl behind his back! Then go talk #### about him all over town. I've had a boss just like that for years now. Slave driving #######!

unless you use heat, which is what i always do.

Very good driver, now do you know why ? I do
-
nope not a clue I just know it does kick on with the defrost

The A/C runs in the winter when you use your defroster.
