I take it you are talking about the air deflectors on the roof of trucks, to deflect the air over the trailer. When they are properly adjusted the work great. Every kind of device that cuts down on wind resistance saves you money, if used properly. If you haul different trailers at different heights you may have to adjust it and when you haul a high-boy you would want to lay it down. Just a thought!

No John, Gerardo was not asking about air wings or air foils. Air tabs are small, stick on devices that run vertically up the sides and across the top on the rear of the tractor or trailer. I have them on my tractor.

I cannot say for sure they helped with mpg. At the same time I installed them, I took off the bug deflecter from the hood and put on some low rolling resistance tires. Between all these things, I gained about 1/2 mpg. I can say for certain, that in crosswinds, the air tabs do a great job of stabilizing the tractor. I don't have to fight the wind near as much. As reasonable priced as they were, I think they were worth the money.

I see the advertising for Air Tabs in every magazine and all over the web. I'd be interested in hearing some real-world results.

I have airtabs on my 2000 Century. I picked up a solid .4 mpg when I put them on the tractor. I later tried a set on a trailer (but just on the sides not the roof) and did not see any gains at all.
If you want to maximize mpg AirTabs give the biggest bang for the buck. However I would start with dynamic wheel balancers (like centramatics). They will give about .25 mpg improvement. I just changed my steers (at 6/32) they had 230,000 miles on them, my the lowest of my drives is at 9/32, and the mileage is at 300K.
