Wonder how many were texting while driving...?
-
That was simply shocking to see. I'm glad to see that many of the night videos also showed the red light camera flashes as the pictures of the runners cares were taken.

I agree with you, but its a proven fact that them redlight cameras cause more accidents.
-
It is a proven fact that tailgaters tend to rearend the cars they are following more often at red light camera-enforced intersections.
-
Your right but it doesn't even have to be tailgaters. Them cameras have people so scared they won't even go thru a yellow light.squirrellsgnwild Thanks this.

how is it a proven fact that they cause more accidents?

I can't point to a study that proves it, but I see it all day long running in a city with red light cameras everywhere. People hit a yellow light close enough that the safe thing to do is proceed through the intersection. Yet, they know there is a camera there, so they #### near lock up the brakes to come to a stop. The car behind them is unable to stop in time (possibly because they are assuming that a reasonable person would have kept going) and rearends them. Or, the car stops fast to not get a ticket and ends up hanging out into the intersection, because there wasn't enough room for them to stop in the first place and they should have went through the yellow, so the opposing traffic ends up dodging the car that is now hanging in the intersection.
I have been ticketed by red light cameras three times now. One time I was just trying to make it through the light because I was in a hurry, and I deserved the ticket (at the very least) because I did something stupid. Other two times I ran the light, where there was no opposing traffic, to avoid being rearended, and I don't think any decent cop in this world would have ever ticketed me for it. Would have cost me more money to take a day off of work to fight it, so I just paid a fine on something I didn't deserve a ticket for.
IMO, they have nothing to do with safety and everything to do with making revenue.squirrellsgnwild and Les2 Thank this. -

Depending on the authority running the cameras, you won't necessarily get a ticket for entering an intersection on a yellow. After all, it's not like if the light turns yellow JUST as you're approaching the intersection that you won't have enough time to get through before it turns red. The problem is that by and large people follow way too closely, and if they think that the person ahead of them is going to go through the intersection on a yellow, they want to as well so they don't get stuck at the red. But if the person in front decides not to go, the following car already made their decision to not start slowing down and at this point it's too late.
They should double as "following too closely" cameras. If you get rearended because you stopped on a yellow or red and someone rearends you, THEY get a ticket!Les2 Thanks this. -
That one in the activity bus, though not paying attention made a remarkable recovery.
The two fire trucks? lol
