I've been hearing about that for quite some time.

some of the paper plants and other places who load things that have alot of weight in a concentrated area will require trailer to be no more then 10 yr old

Ramblin Redneck's video is what happens when the welds holding the frame crossmembers crack and the welds break loose at the wrong time. I spent 2 days at a wabash dealer while they spent 18 hours welding it all back together on a trailer that was getting ready to do that.
My trailer was 14 years old...
Now, if you're an owner operator with one trailer who cares about your equipment, you're going to be inspecting stuff like that and geting it fixed. But this is a VERY common problem.
I've never seen any load besides paper loads requiring a new trailer. However i've had food loads where if they can find even a single piece of glass in the trailer, it will be rejected permanently! -
PM's are there for a reason. The video Red came up with kind of looked staged to me. I work demolition for the most part and when I'm asked to haul a 100 yd'er made of aluminum that is over 5 years old, I Quiver. As you know, it's light and you get the payload, but it deteriorates quickly with abuse. But even a steel trailer succums to wear & tear. The thing is if you know what to look for and weld it bafore it becomes a hazard the unit can last just about a lifetime. As long as you don't run Kalifornia.

The only reason I asked was because I have a chance to get a 1999 vented 53ft air ride great dane with aluminum wheels for $3200, and I dont wanna be turned away when I try to book loads off the load board.
-
Go ahead and buy it. If the aluminum wheels are still nice they're probably worth almost that much...
Honestly, aren't you a trucker of 2 years? You should know as well as i do what most shippers look at.
Most of my shippers look inside and make sure theres no holes and when i pick up food loads they get real picky about it being swept out, broken glass, odors, etc.
Just make sure its pretty, inside and out. You'll be fine.
I wouldn't haul paper anyway. Those places are soooo annoying.losttrucker Thanks this. -
Hi, my last job was over younder in mantoiwac, wis driving them blue trucks, still like em, but i hauled many a paper loads, both new coils for the newspapers and waste paper back, they are super heavy, made that little cloumbia grunt with that detroit 60 with a super 10, mosst trls were pretty old, most times i go pickup a empty, the the first thing i knew too do when i picked up at a empty at a paper mill was grab my air hose , cause they like too drag the trl with brakes on and over nails debireis ect, next i would grab my bag of lights cause thats a junkyard for empty trls or so thought of drivers too get free lights so i pop them all back in then next i head over en take my leaf blower and blow all the trash out into the dumpsrter, ussaly about a bale that broke, then if im real lucky the door hasnt fallen off while closing it
then im ready too go
