Depends, but it's not difficult to bump up to 27% in a pretty short time. My first trainee went mileage, and I saw him a few weeks back. He told me "I switched to percentage and last week got my first $1,000 paycheck. You put out the work, the money will come.

The last OTR I was with I got 30%. Problem is when freight rates is good its good. When everybody and their brother is competing for that freight throats will get cut. There has been several loads I got at mercer only to get a call from my coordinator if you still want the load it was under bid by another co.......:biggrin_2556:

Then don't forget the bounce. If you are bouncing 200 miles which was my cut off that is 30% of nothing for 200 miles.

    Like notarps said... it depends.

When it's good, yeah. When it's not, hope you have enough reserve to get through the tough times. You're going to be more exposed to the "freight cycle" in your segment of the industry. Notarps would know more about that than I do, being a reefer guy myself.

BTW... TMC has gotta be better than Weener, but notarps is fond of pointing out that Mercer and Maverick are the places to go.

I thought and still do believe that mercer is 100% owner op maverick ran into some money somewhere buiying up that reefer co. A little strange from a flatbed co. You have to like automatics too but from what I understand they are hand in hand with tmc.

Maverick is one of the few large companies that is well managed. They didn't just happen to run into some money. Diversification is a good thing these days. Maverick and TMC are competitors not partners. There is no comparison as to how they are run.

Actually apparently they'll start me at 27%. I figured it'd be good money, but you cant know without talking to others. 27% of nothing is nothing! ;)

I have had MORE than "enuff"! But...I need to save up some money to get my business up and going.

Eh, in general I understand about percentage pay and know you're right. But i had no idea what tmc's rates were like. :)

I just need to get something done quick though, unless weeners actually gonna get me some money....doesnt look like it with the IQ of the office folks combined with paperless logs...

    Hm...

There are contractors who are leased on to mercer who have their own co's. I was with JRS trucking. They had I think 28 or so long nose pete's 18 speed, triple digit trucks at mercer and 8 at ryder.
