Ok, so im considering taking a job hauling gas locally. I've already interviewed an spoke with the company about what took expect for pay. They pay a percentage. I was woundering if anyone else out there can shed some light on this side of the industry, annual pay, ups, downs so on an so forth. Mainly ballpark ANNUAL SALARY!!!! I have a job right now running ramps delivering grocery, the pay and benefits are great, but in general the line of work is getting old quick. Any insight into hauling gas locally would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Look under the thread about Superior Carriers on the company DAC reports. The guy that started that thread is doing a good job of documenting his experience. Check out the other threads on here about gas companies. Keenan and a couple of other ones. Use the search button on the heading above to look up the companies. Hope that helps out some.

its the easiest job besides drop and hook. i hauled gas for a while and i would average 3 or 4 stops a day . as far as physical work i would only do about a half hour of physical work a day and that being loading and unloading of the fuel. its easy reallysandal0906 Thanks this.

Percentage on local gas delivery? OK, if you say so. A couple things to consider. You are at a lot of peoples mercy, such as dispatch wanting you to work 12 hour shifts, weekends, holidays, graveyard, people in your way at the drop site. Not to mention wrecking and having the paramedics scrape your charred arse off the highway.

They do seem to make the 6 o'clock news a lot.

The one risk I never see anyone talk about is exposure to benzene. I wonder what the incidence of acute myelogenous leukemia is for gasoline haulers? I had a grandfather who died from AML in his mid 60's after years of exposure to benzene when he was younger. He worked at a chemical plant and also owned a gas station for a period of time. And though he had not had any serious exposure for the last 20 years of his life, the docs figured that was probably the cause.

If they are making the news alot is because alot of drivers are trying to get done quick so they can go home !! but if you paid by the hour shid take ur time..

Yes actually, they pay percentage on local fuel hauling. Doesn't seem to outa the norm if you read any of the other threads about it on here. With any job you do, there are risk, dangers involved. I find it funny when people make reference to fuel trucks as rolling time bombs, OH NO, YOUR GONNA EXPLODE!! What do you think that plastic, or metal tank is filled with under your personal vehicle?! As far as working weekends, holidays, graveyard ect, I think all of that is a givin, considering the type of industry some of us have chose. So if you have any real advice on this matter, rather than just grumbling and negativity, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Not negativity Pardner, just the plain truth.

Benzene exposure is not what it use to be. There's hardly any problem nowadays. Every company is required to do benzene monitoring once a year in the cab and at the work stations. They also tell us not to stand in the ares where you can smell the product, it's just common sense. The years you are talking about are pre vapor recovery and you could smell gasoline everywhere. They have even lower the amounts of benezene in the product as much as they can. Just like lead exposure it was bad then too.wowo6057 Thanks this.
