Sounds like the introduction to trucking with Millis was a lot better than what I experienced with CRST. If I would've known what awaited me with my first two companies, I would have stayed in manufacturing.

I'm glad you're loving it, Baritone. You probably realize though that there will be some days that'll make you ponder if the decision to get into trucking was a good one. Trucking can be good, but when it sucks, it really sucks. Hang in there, get your experience, and let it take you where you want to go. One thing for certain, as long as you have a clean CDL with all the endorsements, you'll always have a job.

In addition, the more experience you have, be picky in who you work for. With a clean CDL, there's no need to work for just anyone. Some companies think that they can be picky no matter how screwed up their offerings are because of the so-called, "rotten economy". I've never experienced a rotten economy as long as I've been a driver. Be choosy and enjoy your new journey.

I really appreciate that. I can say I havent seen one thing yet that made me think so far I didnt make a good choice. But I do know there will be days like that. Example being stuck in St Louis waiting for a Bud Load that is delayed until noon tomorrow. But instead of getting upset - I have taken the opportunity to get some laundry done and pay bills on line and get out of the truck and walk around.

A little bit of frustrating news - I didnt pass my cdl test on Friday. I messed up during the Pre=trip during the air brake test. I somehow forgot to push in the trailer and tractor valves when doing the pressure test. (in KY it's a automatic failure if you mess anything up during the a/b portion.)

The trooper said the PTI was perfect until that one issue. I did pass the skills portion with no problems and he made me do the Alley Dock, Offset back both left and right and then paralell park. So have reset the test again for next Friday. Just have to do the PTI again and then the driving portion.

I know my trainer told me not to worry - it happens to a lot of people - I still feel very let down and made that I missed just one little thing and failed.

Don't let it get you down man. It's behind you, and you'll do just fine the 2nd time around.

Which driving postion are you applying for? But I had only 1 interview, my dad works there so he got me right in. But all I can say is show them that you are a good worker and you are a good driver and im sure they a offer you a job. Im not sure how the pepsi company u applied for is or how they run there plant but the best driving jobs from good to worst is 1.Transport (delivering from warehouse to warehouse) 2. Express (delivering to the large format accounts grocery stores for the merchandiser like walmart, krogers, kmart etc. .3 Route Driver (delivering to the small accounts gas stations, convenient stores Mom&Pop stores)......The plant where is was Transport drivers were payed by the load, Express was payed by the hour and Route guys were payed by the day plus commision....Which pepsi did u apply for. They a good company but you just have to watch because the managers play favortism with the union employees and you have some union guys who kiss to get ahead in the company, or at least thats how it was at the pepsi plant i was at. I got fired for getting 3write-ups in a year. They have a point system set-up where u can call off so many times & be late so many times and u get a write-up when u reach half the limit. I reached my limit 3times and company policy is you reach it a 3rd time its termination. It happens to alot of employees but they give breaks to the people who kiss they ### and i wasnt 1of kissed their ###. I did my job very well. I was a merchandiser(stocked the pop in the large format accounts). I had got my c.d.l. permit when i was there and I had went in on my off days and learned how to drive a semi with a express driver. The managers didnt like me very much and when they saw I was trying to move up into a better postion they didnt like that, so the 1st chance they had to fire me they did and when I had my meeting with my union they didnt want to give me my job on a last chance grievance. But Try for a driver postion, take what they offer you and try to bid out of it when u get enough senority, the merchandiser job SUCKS but it pays okay, i did it for 2.5.years...good luck

Thanks - I am using it as a learning experience and chalk it up to nerves. So each day I am doing my PTI every time we stop. You should see the looks I get when I am talking to my self outloud as I walk through each step.
