Believe it or not, it appears to be a small steam generator. Most of them are built on site, and are actually much, much bigger.

Don't confuse a steam generator with a boiler, there is a difference.
Baack Thanks this. -
Gonna be hell finding a parking spot at the Pilot for that load!
-
Yeah and then you get into all the different types of steam as well. But this is an electric generator run by steam.
-
I think it would be really neat to work on something like that!
Baack, The Challenger and johnday Thank this. -
Driving or working on plant construction? Both would be pretty interesting. Worked at Comanche Peak nuclear plant many many yrs ago. Lot of neat stuff. Schedule 80 ,48" dia stainless steel pipe by the acre. Machines to move cut and bevel edges for welding and so much more. Problem was Texas Electric and partners refused to hire union people, who at the time were only ones in TX properly trained in #s sufficient to handle job. Hired Brown and Root{later to become KBR} who had never built a nuclear plant. Bid at $ 750million. Came in after being pretty much rebuilt at $13billion. That was not neat. Not a union fan . But in those days the 5 yr apprentice program turned out fine pipefitters and welders. Now it's pretty much like any company training program. Some good. Too many lousy.

Driving. Should have been more clear about that.
I did work on the extra board at a coal fired power plant one summer during high school though. Grunt labor, painting, cleaning and general maintenance. -
Oh, so it's really a turbogenerator! Whole lot of difference between a steam generator and an electrical generator!!!!

-
Ya, I'd rather drive it than work on it as well. Power plants are pretty neat, until you're in one for 29 years. Luckily, during that time, I learned to drive as well through friends. Was a lot more fun than turning wrenches and taking readings.

Yeah, then try to explain enthalpy and entropy! That'll make your head spin!!
And try to convince someone you CAN NOT see steam!!
Working Class Patriot Thanks this.
