It's outlined in Orientation that as long as you drop off your truck at a Marten terminal then you're OK. I didn't give notice before I got there 'for hometime' (and quit after I cleaned out their truck at the Irving terminal where my personal vehicle was parked). Other drivers who gave Marten notice of their wanting to quit often got jacked around really bad and I wasn't about to allow that to happen to me.

I've been with Marten for the last 4.5 years, and my experiences, particularly with regards to home time, has been quite different. With only two exceptions, my home time requests have been treated as suggestions, with my arriving late for home time an average now of 5 days, one recent home time I got home 11 days late.

My current home time appears to have once again been deliberately screwed with, in keeping with a promise made over the Qualcomm by Randy Q to make sure I never ever got home when I wanted to so long as I remain with Marten back in March 2006. Despite the fact he is no longer employed at Marten (since last year I believe), nearly every home time request has been screwed with.

The situation is so bad that I cannot even renew my CDL, and have been forced to request a leave of absence (LOA) in order to insure I do not get stuck in the middle of nowhere when it actually expires. I've had to repeatedly cancel appointments with the DMV, and had a nightmare trying to get fingerprinting done to continue my HazMat and get my TWIC. In addition, I'm right in the middle of moving from California to Wisconsin, at the suggestion of my employer.

My latest home time, which I should be on now, is totally screwed up. I was supposed to be home 6/23. Unfortunately, my FM had to take last Monday and Tuesday off, which resulted in her returning to work Wednesday to find out I was delivering late the evening I was supposed to be home, several hundred miles away from home. She did manage to find me a load that delivered Friday evening 10 miles from my home, but that got screwed up as well, by the load planner (big surprise). I now deliver Sunday at midnight, and since it's a refrigerated load, I have to baby-sit it until delivered. This leaves me with no secure location for the rig until 0700 Monday morning, so I won't get home until 0800 at the earliest, on the day I was scheduled to return to work.

This is typical. One thing most at Blue Bird don't understand is that the home time is nearly 100% out of their FM's control, particularly now. Home time, once guaranteed and backed by cash, is no longer guaranteed. Of course, FM's rarely approved the $50 per day late to begin with (hence the resulting threat I received back in 2006).

As for miles, I average less than 2,000/week right now. I will typically get one week of 3,000 miles, but then three weeks of around 1,200 miles, give or take about 100.

What get's me PO'd is Marten is running a radio ad now promising both frequent on time home time with good miles, when neither is the case (at least for me). I have an excellent safety and on time record, no problems ever with customers, etc, and over 15 years experience.

I've never lied for or about Marten, and if you look at much of what I've posted, I've been fairly supportive of this company. But this issue is a sore spot right now, and either you're not being truthful, or I'm being subjected to selective harassment to force me out of the company.

    Which is it?

I usually get home within a day or two of my requested hometime. A time or two i was 3-5 days late getting home. Yeah, it was difficult to get that fifty dollar late hometime pay when they had that, but one time i got two hundred.

If anyone has any doubts, I used to work with CA_Medicine Woman, and had a bit of a crush on her back in the day. That being said, she is not the type of woman that would bad mouth the company that's supposed to keep her and her family fed. She's telling the absolute truth about how this company operates. But until about 2 or 3 hundred drivers all get together and sue them for FALSE ADVERTISING and fraud, they will continue to get away with it. How much would it cost for a bunch of guys to get OOIDA to place a few adds on XM radio right next to Marten's time slots showing how they're lying to everyone as soon as the commercial starts? Like the one claiming they're the "highest paid refer outfit in the industry"... Shaffer pays the same per mile, and pays PRACTICAL miles (Marten pays household mover's guide miles, which is roughly 5-8% less than shortest miles). So with the same usage of your 'E'log, you'll make an average of 11% more per load. They also don't force per diem down your throat. I don't work for them, but I would like to based on things I've read and heard from both their current and former drivers.

Well no offense but if you read things there like you have here maybe that might be a contributing factor.

"Discuss Your Favorite Trucking Company Here > marten transport- A+ company to drive for"

No offense, just say in..... Just in fun and because someone else would if I did not, and I have a lack of selfcontrol at times....

No offense taken but being I've 'been there, done that' with Marten I saw a need to post about my own experiences with them (sort of a 'Driver Beware' thing if ya get my drift).
