BigPete, of course drivers get sick while on the road. They "deal with it", by having some common first aid items, such as Ibuprophen, Aspirin, Tylenol, cold and allergy medications.
If the individual cannot fight off their cold or infection, then they have no choice but to find a doctor while OTR.
Using yellowpages.com to help to locate a doctor in the vicinity is very helpful and quick way to solve that problem.
I hope that you are not sick right now, but just wanted some information.

    Best to You!!!!

Best to keep the cold medicine hidden. If you are dot'd, the officer can and usually makes the determination if you are driving while ill which is a violation of the FMCSA.

I always took that to mean, like, seriously ill, not like, oh, I have a runny nose!

I didn't keep first aid items in my truck at all, until I cut myself on a sharp edge in my sleeper recently. Only thing i had was some slightly used paper towels. I was in canada and it bled pretty bad for a few minutes!

I felt like something bad was gonna happen when I went through the customs booth with my foot wrapped up in paper towels...haha...

I didn't have time to do anything about it til i shut down in Ann Arbor either (crossed in detroit), but i stopped in at the ta and the only thing they had as far as rubbing alcohol went was the huge bottle of it..for a decent price even. I bought it and kept it in my truck ever since. Kind of an important item, really.

I didn't use bandaids because I try to avoid them whenever possible as they slow healing.. and its healing very well. :) Bandaids should only be used to stop bleeding, nothing else...

Bandaids come with medicine in them now if you buy the good ones. You should use them in order to keep the wound sanitary. Change them daily and clean with cold water. Best treatment there is.

I also have some stuff called New Skin. Not sure it is available anymore.

It's generally a good idea to keep some type of first aid in the truck. Antibiotic ointment, some bandaids, hydrogen peroxide/alcohol, and I never go anywhere without a bottle of tylenol, ibuprofen, and excedrine. I cant take cold meds or allergy meds cause they mess with me something fierce.

Hell, I keep a basic 1st aid kit in the trunk of my car. I would certainly keep one in the truck.
