Driver got pulled over in Michigan for Speeding

    My driver got pulled over last night near Lansing Michigan for speeding 68mph in a 60mph zone. He also placed him out of service for log book violation.

    All of our trucks are governed at 62mph, it is impossible to speed unless going down a hill. However this portion of the highway is flat.

    Then he placed him out of service for 10 hours, however he has been driving for only 2.5 hours prior to that he slept for 5 hours. His total on duty time for the past 24 hours was 9 hours total driving time and 12 hours on duty.

    When my driver told the Police officer that all of our trucks are limited to 62mph he did not care. Now I have to take time off my schedule to fight this.

    People wonder why we hate the Police.

    Well ya know we are broke in this state....seriously speeding around here is a huge no no, and the cop isnt a mechanic and wasnt about to take the time to verify the fact that the truck is or is not governed....I guess I would take written proof of this to court if I was the driver and wanted to waste the time fighting the ticket.

    Who knows what the log violation was...it could have been anything like not up to date enough etc. Guess all the facts and supporting documents would have to gathered up examined and then decide if its really worth goin to court over.

    You can fight that charge with the proof of the governed truck and the stretch of highway that it was on when it was pulled over.
    Sorry you are having to go through the trouble. I have seen this before, but, the truck won in the end.
    The log book violation??? That would be up for review...

    Maybe you should start hating the driver? Have you seen the particular stretch of highway?

    Michigan is one state I don't speed in. That and the Louisville no fly zone.

    We got pulled over in Mi and they searched our entire truck (cab and trailer). There were 3 cop cars and two guys without uniforms. The only thing we had in the trailer we had just picked up was one pallet of butter that was going to LA to be shipped to INDO. They were all respectively nice and in a legal,nonchalantly way they told us where we picked up was being watched! I had just got back from El Salvador two days before and had a case of cubans, they each got one and were stoked!

    I have more details from the driver.
    The driver had 2 days off prior to this trip. He started his trip loaded in New Castle Ontario.
    Driving time in ideal conditions from New Castel Ontario to Lansing MI is 6 hours.
    According to our GPS:
    July 2010 8 (Thurs) Vehicle 802
    11:45am ---- GO
    2:17pm ---- STOP Woodstock ON
    2:21pm ---- Engine Off
    3:00pm ---- Engine On
    3:35pm ---- GO
    3:58pm ---- Stop Putnam Scales
    3:58pm ---- GO Putnam Scales
    5:03pm ---- Stop 5822 Oil Heritage Rd, Reece's Corners, ON
    5:05pm ---- Engine Off
    10:04pm ---- Engine On
    10:07pm ---- GO
    10:50pm ---- Stop USA Border
    11:00pm ---- Engine Off
    11:32pm ---- Engine On
    11:33pm ---- GO

    July 2010 9 (Friday) Vehicle 802
    1:48am ---- Stop (Pulled over for speeding 68mph in 62mph zone)
    2:01am ---- Excessive idling
    2:44am ---- Go
    2:52 ---- Stop
    2:52 ---- Engine Off

    The GPS shows that the driver was within his 11 and 14 hour rule.

    All Ontario Canada trucks by law are governed @62mph
    Speed limit on the highway is 60Mph, the stretch of the road is flat.

    Why would I hate my drivers, they are not perfect by any means.

    However I know for a fact he did not speed because he can't.
    His log book violation I can't say much until I see it. However according to the GPS system he had plenty of time left on his 11 and 14 hour rule.

    Not only speeding in Michigan is a no go, but in Lansing is even worse. I live in Michigan and I have been pulled over 3 times and twice have been in Lansing (my guess is on the same highway). The state police headquarters is in Lansing and they don’t like to spread out to far so in that area you tend to see several people in front of flashing lights.

    Just to see if I remember right. Doesn't the speed limit drop to 55 on I96 through there at some point? I also know that a certain "few" troops like to screw with Canadians, and in a big truck, standby.:biggrin_25510:
