Anybody with any brains at all knows that the more interactions that happens between large trucks and four wheels causes problems. Hell, there is even a pretty little graph printed out by the DOT that shows just this.

But turning off the engine brake? Get your slow moving road hazard off the interstate, or make all slow wagons have a red triangle on the back, because when you are going 15mph down a mountain in which the speed limit is 65mph or more, yes, you are a danger to you and everybody around you.

 

they have changed the Jake timetable. I was taught (?) the jake in my trainer's truck and had it active the first day of grad class.
(? because I've been driving since the 70's...)

 

I learned with the jakes, and also learned how to use them properly. Then again, I learned over a decade ago.

 

its because accidents happen!...

 

Jakes are turned on as soon as the student has completed training. No more 6 months so the original poster was mistaken as to current policy. So all you ######## about slow trucks on hills, tuff.

You have to admit, it was a ridiculously stupid idea in the first place. Jakes are a safety feature.

I almost did it once. I fell asleep on highway 401!

ok maybe there was nothing around him to cause him to lay the rig over but, who knows what may have happend. You should know form your own experience that there have been times where something "almost" happened that would not have been your fault and turned out bad. But hey, not trying to fight here,,, just its kinda crappy to automatically blame the driver for everything..
