I'm actually going to be going to work for a small affiliate company of Quality Carriers, finally. It's a very small terminal in Gary..to the point that the physical size of the terminal bothers me!
I just had my final contact with the terminal before going to training. I am VERY excited that I will finally be able to try something different. Dry van was really starting to get on my nerves, and I feel like tanks demand more of a professional attitude, and that the company has to take a more safety oriented approach to everything, because of the nature of hauling liquids. I think i'm right...
I'm going to drive my personal vehicle up to Joliet, IL on Sunday afternoon, for a training class starting on Monday morning. Of course, one of my fuel pumps is bad, so i have to stop and get fuel every 50 miles (100 mile trip) so i dont run the tank down to the level that it cant provide fuel to the engine. ITS A TWO HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLAR PART!!! But my $49 used replacement off another forum has been shipped...will be here when i get back from training![]()

Oh yeah, so I'm told that I have 4 days of training in Joliet, then I'll haul butt back to Gary on Thursday, for a little orientation meeting at the terminal, where they're going to, among other things, go over what i learned in Joliet. The good thing here is that i already passed my road test, so i have nothing to worry about except all this business of the thousands of gallons of liquids in the trailer.
I commented to the boss man re unloading, "It cant be any worse than unloading a dry van!"
Then I will go out with a trainer on a local run for a week, being paid $15 an hour. I'm not clear if it's for 10 hours or 8 hours a day, but either way it'll be more than i made at werner...sad, eh? They said i'll be home every day, which....is a bit of an issue, since I'm essentially not welcome back to the house. Great family, eh? I'm thinking about renting a campsite for that week and using my tent for the week..
Also, anyone know if the Glen Park West neighborhood is that scary, in Gary? I found a nice 2 bedroom house for $575 over there, with a 2 car garage, which is exactly the kind of unit i need..that way my motorcycle wont dissapear as easily. I figured i'd get ADT? The lady i talked to about it says its a good neighborhood but why should i trust her?
Anyhow, I figured i would keep you guys informed about my progress of this whole training thing. I never did like being in training....

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
I'm a tanker yanker now!
