Are those Aprile trucks? If you hauled them horses around Chi town you know who Aprile is.
-
Yes! Do you know him? He is the best in the country! That is who we drove for.
-
I have made a few runs for him back about 4 years ago. Drove his single axle freight shaker and then his old werner or JB freightliner with a 13 in it.
Best in the country? Not to be a DI** but I beg to differ with that statement.chompi Thanks this. -
Amen sherdfit1 feul saving is the biggest load of B.S. ever

They usually let you get away with it as the high limit is still governed at the same place... I've talked to a guy from the dreaded CR England that did this on their flease program... As I recall he did argue with them about it, his point was, if my coin IS being used for fuel, I need this for better milage... they let him go with it.
-
back to the OP, Western Distribution trucks are goverened at 76 mph, most drivers seem to keep them at 70 on the highway
-
Once again I drive a truck that has no limit to the speed it can go. I only drove one truck that was limited and it was because the truck I drove was getting a inframe. I could not stand it always paranoid that I was holding up another driver.
But anyways I run five to ten over the speed limit on average.I can get out in the left lane and hang in there depending on road conditions and run at the speeds of four wheelers if it is reasonable I do not hold up four wheelers just like I dont hold up other drivers. I dont know there schedule so I dont want to be in there way.
I have not found much difference in fuel mileage unless I get over 75mph I am sure there is some. I will not deny that.
I now run from Maine to Atlanta Ga. I am out in the hammer lane allot. I have bears sitting in the middle with there speed guns and not bother me. I personally been driven for about 6 0r7 years the tickets I got in the past were 20 over or more. I know I will get crap for saying I drove this fast. But it depended where I was and what was there for traffic. Just like driven your personal vehicle depends on road conditions.
The loads I do are seafood mostly lobster I run team from Maine to Atlanta. we load on Tuesday out of Main an head to Atlanta with a stop in Charlotte NC and are back on Thursday or Friday that includes reload. It a easy run but going 70 75 dose make a difference and our load time sometimes makes it hard to get to our destination.
I have a hard time with drivers who pass in work zones where there are barriers on both sides this is not safe. But at the same time I cannot understand why drivers stay in the middle lane and not let us faster trucks by.
The problem I feel with fast trucks is that they expect you to make the load in a shorter time. This is what I have found by always driven fast trucks.
If you want to drive fast trucks most likely you are going to run hard/hot loads as they so call them.
I use to run solo this is my first team job. The dispatcher mentality think fast truck fast load. From my experience if you run solo with a fast truck and a small company they are going to expect you to run over the legal hours and fast. You think running 62 mph for ten hours suck try running 75 mph or more for 15 or more hours. I am not saying they are all like this but remember they want as many runs in as short a time as possible to make them the money. There is a reason why the trucks are fast and they will hire just about anyone. In short fast trucks are not everything so the next time someone flies by you it probably because they need to be going fast. And they are either doing all they know or messed up there drivers license so it all they can find for a job. We all make mistakes. Those who pass you half a dozen times in a day are not true drivers and are not going to last. The ones that may past you a couple of time well. you dont know where there load started so they have to fuel up somewhere and maybe had to take a crap.
Anyways if you want to drive a fast truck for a small company think hard about it, it not all it seems to be. -
How do you like the team gig? I can probebly answer your question bout middle lanes. for example, I-85 through charlotte, when ur going 65 in a 60 and there is a ramp every mile and cars everywhere, and a fast truck comes up behind you in the middle wanting you (not you) to get over, usually if ya get over, theres noplace for the guy to go anyway, and too many times when ya do get over the fast truck takes his sweet time passing you, then your stuck with merging traffic cause, cars are now lined up behind fast truck and ya can't get back over. Night time is different story, I hit the third lane all the time if I can get by quik, never had a problem with bears through there, or greenville/ spartenburg. In ATL either, city cops don't enforce that, they got other objectives. If everybody was on the same page it would be better, but their not, so ya have to control others as much as yourself sometimes

Roflmao,
Some of you might recognize the Companies I am talking about,
I worked for C&C Trucking out of Crump TN, RIP Lynn Churchwell. But in his mind a Governor was the man who ran the state, Trucks would go faster than a speeding Ticket. And they were some of the most beautiful trucks on the road, He left it to the Driver, to maintain themselves Lose your CDL Lose your Job was his attitude.
Fuel Mileage was not an issue but fuel was less than 2.00 a gallon.
Drove For R&R as a Lease Operator, Fast T-600 and had a 500 Detroit with a 13 dbl over in it, 3.55 rears pull a hill, fly on the flats. 16 years of driving and No Accidents, no DOT shutdowns, no Log Violations. Simply put it was the Driver who made it safe. I have seen JB and Schnieder laying shiny side down, rubber up in the air in a 55 MPH zone. A fast truck is not something you hand to a CB Rambo with 2 year otr experience, nor do you let the idiot with an attitude of I can do anything get behind the wheel. Any monkey can put it in gear and go forward, it takes a man with Skills to get the load there ontime, and put it on a Dock with out tearing up the trlr or someone else's rig in the process.BigJohn54 and Kickstand-117 Thank this.
