Starting out for rookies

Shouldn't you have asked that BEFORE you got in school ?
It shouldn't really be a problem . Just be honest on the application in case they check back that far .

 

Is it better to pay for your own school and then look for a job or let some company train and sign a contract with them?

 

Im still a rookie im at 2 years driving a pub trailer with no school im 25 yrs old and i got into a local food service distributor humping food (hand carts) all day like sysco or us food wrong move lol. But i can say if your young they will hire you real quick cause they need young pple to bus there chops.So like im doing get with one of them get your experience and move on to bigger and better things.

 

You may as well sign a contract with the devil. If you can afford it, stand on your own two feet, pay for school, get several pre-hires BEFORE graduation, and get your experience in with the company that you want to work for.

A company can pay for your school, but then you are STUCK WITH that company until your contract expires. In the mean time, they will run the crap out of you for less pay, and at times you may feel like quitting, but you can't. The minute you break that contract is the minute that you will have to pay the company back for all of that training.

The choice is up to you. This is simply advice from a young driver such as myself. No I'm not 40; that birthday is fake. Only fools give out their personal info online. Gotta stay like a ninja and just observe things these days

 

The current trend these days is that if you're young, then you are more likely to get hired by a truck company than a guy who has been driving for years. Pretty backwards.

If you are inexperienced, you may get a job. If you have experience, then you will get rejected. It's what these experienced guys HAVE ALLOWED to happen throughout the years. They would rather just complain over the CB radio or drivers' lounge rather than have some balls to fight these things.

Everything is all about money these days with these trucking corporations. They could care less about the driver, or who they hire to drive 120,000 thousand dollars worth of equipment down the road.

 

Wow! A bum?! Seriously? Are they agressive?

 

Seriously? I have to repay orientation and transportation? I am about to head to Dallas for Stephens Transport. What the?!

 

Even the sand haulers here in So. Cal. want time. Seems like every one needs 1 - 2 years before they will talk to ya. At 50 I don't have too much more time

 

There are many companies that will hire you with No Experience, you will have to look for them, Spend atleast 1 year with them, Bunk Bouncing looks bad on your resume.

 

Hey Guys Been Lurking For A Month Here..I went out and got my Class A Permit By Myself BUt my Problem is Outside of 1 friend I have I can't get any practice driving done..maybe 1-2 Times A Week Which I Do Not Feel Is Enough For Me To Become "good" enough to practice my road test. Do Some Of The Bigger Companies such ### Swift,Crete,Schenider allow you to come to them with a permit and they'll train you ro do I need to find a way to get my own license and then apply? I'd love to goto a CDL school and use their equipment but I can't afford it..lol Thanks for any INput!
